Common Ground: TEA and Pets :)

I’ve seen these at Nature’s Emporium (local pet store), don’t know if anyone here as tried them. Tea for pets, they have a joint one, a calming one, and a urinary health one.

I’ve got two little yorkies, Mr. Snuggles and Sr. Caliente. You can see them in my profile pic. Snuggles loves to cuddle so I’ve got a little buddy on my lap while I sip my tea. :) They don’t seem too interested in my tea but will lick my fingers if I offer them a drop.

There’s nothing like a cuddly pup and a cup a tea to take your worries away!

I’ve got two cats, one a shiny black cat called Layla (which means “night” in Hebrew), and one called Moria. They are mother and daughter. When Layla gave birth to the kittens, my daughter insisted that one of the kittens had to be called Moria. Named after my sister, who is one of my daughters favorite people. Although I was a bit uncertain about this idea, my sister is also a cat lover and she took it as the compliment it was meant to be. Since then our family conversations are funny because we always have to specify which Moria we are talking about. So it’s “Moria the cat did this..” or “Moria, not the cat, did that…”
Moria, the cat, actually likes tea. Mostly she likes oolong that has gotten cold. She drinks it from my glass, really jamming her face deep into the glass.

We have cats currently, but I also love samoyeds. I would not consider myself a dog nor a cat person, but a lover of both.

We have two cats, Charlie and Angie, both shelter rescues. We get constant comments from people on how beautiful Charlie is; he’s a black and gray tabby. Angie is our feisty tortie. They are both lap kitties and love when I’m sitting down for a cuppa.
We also have a puppy, a border collie mix named Fezzik. ( Princess Bride anyone? :)) he is a little snuggle bug! He’s only 9 weeks, we will see how big he gets!
If it was up to me, I’d have my own rescue; I love all animals! Well..except spiders. :P

We’ve always been cat people until 4 or 5 years ago.
A very abused Shi Tzu wandered up on our property in 100+ degree heat and she’s been wonderful! Then we got her a friend.. a Jack Russel mix (very mixed!) and they couldn’t be different from each other.
But the Jack, loves the lap, especially when drinking tea.

I have an English Mastiff. My profile picture is a picture of her when she was a lot smaller :D she’s 140lbs of muscle so I pity the person that tries anything with her around. Of course this means that she lets smaller dogs like beagles and such win when they play fight in the off the leash puppy park. My dog is like “well you tried so I’ll just lay down and pretend you got me” it’s sooo adorable, especially when the dog is the size of her paw… For those allergic to cats but want one may I suggest a Ragdoll or Siberian Cat most people with allergies seem to be able to handle and breed them :D

I’m totally a cat person. I own two boys from the same litter, Mustang and Kaleb, both street rescues. Mustang is half white and half brown tabby colored, and Kaleb is half white and half grey with a bit of a Siamese look to him…but their markings are all in exactly the same places, it’s hilarious. They look like book-ends. They have totally different personalities (Mustang is friendly and dumb, Kaleb is terrified of everything including dust and his shadow), but if they sit side-by-side, they turn their heads to look around together like they’re psychically connected. It’s a bit creepy.

Then we have two girls. The first one is Pigwidgeon, who we got as a such a tiny kitten that she fit in the palm of your hand. Old enough to leave her mother, mind, just tiny. (She was originally a ball of grey fluff, hence the name, but now she’s a brown tabby. Go figure.) My mother knows two women who each brought a female cat with them when they married. Turns out the cats were not lesbians…they both escaped and came back pregnant with a litter of 5 each! All of the willing friends of this couple got one. Widgie is from…one from those litters or the other (which got all mixed up, of course!) so she’s never been on the street or abused and has no idea what a princess she is.

Satsuma, our ginger tabby, is also a street rescue with a sad story of having been starved, poor thing. She’s sleek and fed solid meals now! And she’s a HUGE handful. Not-so-secretly my fave though. She’s very expressive, quite a talker.

All of my cats THINK they want my tea, but when I let them sniff it, they’re always repulsed. Except one time Mustang got into a latte I had. I had to haul him out of the cup by the scruff of the neck! DAVIDsTEA has a tea with catnip in it, Le Digestif, but they don’t even like the smell of that one. There must be other ingredients in it that puts them off.

I love how many of us have rescued pets. I don’t think I mentioned it, but my Emma was also a rescue. Someone dumped a pregnant cat in our area years ago and she became our “barn cat.” We fed her and put out things for her to snuggle in though she was never brought inside with our others in case she had feline leukemia which was prevalent in our area. I ‘rescued’ Emma from one of Mama’s litters on Thanksgiving 4 years ago. She was only about 6 weeks old but when we put out the giblets from the turkey she came bolting out to get some and I fell in love and took her home. She was a weird looking kitten, her ears were enormous and she reminded me of a gremlin. My brother named her Emma Frost (for the X-Man. :D)

In one of the great cosmic jokes, her dad was this bug bully Tom in our neighbourhood who beat up and possibly killed Cosmo (our lazy orange housecat) when he made a break for it one afternoon. While I never forgave the Tom for what he did to Cosmo, he did give me my princess.
