Matcha in a bottle
How do I make matcha in a bottle? My first attempt was just not very good at all. I got the caramel flavor from Read Leaf Tea with distinctive flavoring and I can’t taste even a hint of caramel? Am I doing something wrong? How much matcha powder should I use per ounce of water? Errr. how much matcha powder should I use in say.. 500 mL of water?
First of all, this topic totally reminded me of “Message in a Bottle” by Sting.
I recommend using at least 1/2 teaspoon for 16 oz of water. I use a reusable rubbermaid water bottle instead of an actual plastic water bottle. Put in it, shake it up, and enjoy.
Some flavors don’t work as well for the water bottle method, like the desert flavors. Haven’t tried caramel, but I imagine it would be the same. Fruit flavors work best like Boysenberry, Strawberry, or Black Cherry. Yum!
Ugh. Wish I had known this :\ I ordered 60g of pumpkin pie and 60g of caramel. no fruits :\
and 1/2 teaspoon for 16 oz?! I used 6 times that much. 2 teaspoon at first then went to 3 and then.. gave up. Needless to say i’m quite wired right now.
Haha, that might explain it. The RedLeafTea website actually says to use 1/4 teaspoon, but I found that to be too little.
I would also imagine you had a hard time getting it to mix up properly, too.
Okay I diluted it and MUCH MUCH better. The problem was clearly that I put FAR too much to start and adjusted the wrong way. So I basically just had what? uhm. 300+ mL of caffeine? ooops
I’m getting a contact high just from reading this thread. =P Glad you’re getting closer to the ratio that works best for you!
Ha ha. Glad to know. Yeah, you might think that if you add more matcha you also get more flavor, but the problem is the matcha is so strong already.
Yeah. way more flavor with less powder. Complete screw up first time. Guess thats fairly common though
Awesome topic. Funny how sometimes more isn’t better, the perfect example. Also, the matcha choices you made sound like they would make amazing matcha lattes. Just a thought :)
Yeah I tried the caramel cold and it came out well. I used 1/2tsp for 13ish oz. When I first sipped it, I thought it didn’t have a lot of flavor, but it slowly grew on me and then I tasted loads of flavor! I think even the dessert ones will be good cold.
I thought caramel was great cold! Colder is better. As it started reaching room temperature it got kind of weird, but when I stuck it back in the fridge it was good again.
