Harney & Sons Sample Sizes
Does anyone know how big the H&S sample sizes sold on their website are? I see they have a shipping deal until Nov. 1 at midnight (free shipping in the US, discount for international), and am looking to possibly make a purchase, but I certainly do not want 4 oz. of each tea, although the price is pretty good. At the same time though, I don’t want to be ripped off with 2-cup sample sizes…
I had the same question and sent them an email and received this response:
“Hello,
The sample packs include enough tea to brew 2-3 cups.”
That said, I didn’t order any samples so I don’t know firsthand.
Thanks :) Makes my choice more difficult though, since they’re comparatively so expensive…
I have ordered their samples in the past, and they’re generally enough for one pot (4 cups).
I’m just finishing up my Vanilla Comoro sample, and I got six cups out of it. Same as Boston. I also just weighed the empty sample packet, tared the scale, then weighed the rest of my samples and they’re all 8-10g each.
Ah, you don’t need a fancy tea scale. Mine is a digital scale from IKEA that only cost like $15. Unfortunately, they don’t make it anymore, and their Ordning one is around $40.
Hi ashmanra, Yes the Upton AR44 digital scale looks very good. I searched the Steepster for it and was surprised that there wasn’t much discussion about it. Perhaps due to the cost $40 total cost w/AR45 calibration weight?
Have you seen this recent tea scale thread?

I’ll add for a white tea, I got 3 or 4 cups out of White Christmas. Can’t remember exactly, but it was definitely not 6 like the mentioned black teas.
Psssst…..this is why you have too many teas! :)
Thanks everyone! I missed the free shipping this time around, but I think I’d be better off swapping for samples of things I want to try, and then making full-size purchases of the ones I want (like SoHo Chocolate Coconut…) Not that $2 for a 2-6 cup sample is bad, but when you look at the price for 4 oz. it just kills me!
