Tea in Tins
OK so I have some tins i have been buying to put tea in …. here the thing though im afraid to take the tea out of the bag and put it in the tins! IDk it just don’t seem right.. is it ok to have them just in the tin not in a bag ? My Davids tins are empty cues im not sure if i can just put it in the tins…
Tins are intended to just be filled with the loose leaf, I could only imagine an issue if they were painted inside or wet or something other than dry metal, glass or plastic.
They should be fine if they’ve been cleaned or rinsed and are totally dry. :)
I know the feeling! I kept my matcha inside its little bag, which was inside its little tin — and had a devil of a time trying to scoop the tea out when the level got low. Putting it directly in the tin just didn’t seem sanitary. I’m over that now, thankfully! I generally keep my loose tea in glass canning jars painted black on the outside, but if a tea comes with a tin I’ll use it. Lots of loose teas, like Twinings, come in tins. As has been said, just wash and rinse the tin well and make sure it’s completely dry (you can warm the open tins gently in the oven to insure dryness). Tea tins are classy!
I’m a little overboard maybe, but most tins are not completely watertight, and therefore not completely airtight, so with matcha and other very sensitive teas, I do keep them in the bag inside the tin. Maybe that’s overdoing it though.
Metals don’t leech into solid stuff…. it does water and liquids. I would much rather use metal instead of terrible plastic that’s full of chemicals.
Do make sure they’re air tight though.
