Fans of Lapsang Souchong or other smoky teas?
hi fellow tea enthusiasts,
i was wondering if any of you loved lapsang souchong? it took me a bit to get a taste for it, but my love of the tea started in the 90s. what first seemed like campfire ashes soon became the Lagavulin of teas for me. i adore its smoky flavour and robust nature. i’m always searching for a really good lapsang souchong. some try to fob off Russian Caravan to me in tea stores and it’s nowhere near as smoky or strong, at least the ones i’ve tried. i am interested in any smoky teas. our local tea shop: World of Tea does a beautiful and smoky Irish B. it’s divine.
I love smoky teas! I don’t know if I’m quite the connoisseur you are, but there are a few I really enjoy. I like the one from Mountain Rose Herbs and there is also a seasonal tea from Gnat & Bee called Chroning that is like a smoky spiced tea. It’s probably my favorite smoky tea.
I am also a smokey tea fan. I recently had Theodor’s Lapsang and it kind of blew me away. It was really well balanced and had a strong amount of smoke. I’m now plotting on how to order more from France.
A Quarter to Tea had a tea called Russian Bonfire which was a Russian caravan with plum notes that worked really well. I hope she comes off hiatus before I run out of my stash.
hi Dustin, oooh the Theodor tea sounds amazing. and i’m intrigued by the Russian bonfire. i may have to save up my Canadian loonies and toonies for these teas :)
I agree, the Theodor tea sounds so good. I remember trying AQ2T’s Russian Caravan a while back and really enjoying it.
Hi KikiTea, I am in Canada as well, and appreciate a nice Lagavulin.
Tealyra makes a very nice Lapsang Soochong, as does TWG. You like smokey? TWG’s LS is very smokey.
The Wellness Group. It’s a company from Singapore that fashions it’s self after French companies.
I also really love smokey teas! The best Lapsang Souchong I’ve ever had was from the Spice and Tea Exchange! Adagio’s Lapsang is very disappointing to me however.
I’d be very much in to recommendations for other good brands and types!
My Dad’s favorite LS is from Upton. I’m not sure it’s my favorite, but it is very smooth. I’ve been mixing my LS with lemongrass lately, I like the blend.
The only one I have tasted and have is from David’s tea. It is called Lapsang Souchong Star but this one is too strong and too much smoky. I always brew it in the same tea pot since the smell and flavors can stick to it. I heard that type of tea can be mild or strong. I’m looking to get a mild lapsang souchong that doesn’t taste as smokey that the one I have, any suggestion?
