why do you drink tea???

I was sitting up, failing to sleep when I started contemplating the reasons as to why I drink so much tea and am so fascinated with collecting and researching tea.

I wish I had some awesome tale, you know like “I met my husband/God/reached enlightenment in a tea shop” or “tea saved my life” or “I lost 100lbs thanks to tea!” But I don’t.

Tea ceremony is medicinal for me. I am an extremely nervous and oftentimes uncontrollably angry person that can’t afford anything more than a school guidance counselor as far as actualy help and it manifests itself destructively. All day I fight the impulse to set things on fire, rip things apart, stab whatever is nearest to me- essentially cause chaos. Tea preparation I have found is a much more productive and socially acceptable way of handling that aggression than my childhood solution to rock back and forth and nearly deafen myself with loud music. I get my fire, I get to change a substance from one state to another, the kettle makes loud noises and tea preparation is so quick that it requires my full attention for the duration of the process followed by luring the attention of my senses to the complex brew before me. It has been a unwavering nervous energy outlet for me admist an array of artist’s block.

Being nommy is all the reason I need. :) The fact that it’s also interesting is just a bonus. :)

I started with loose tea with a friend after the local Davids opened up a few years back. It was partially having a hot beverage other than coffee (I hate coffee but it’s the drink of choice in my family) but also for the sense of exploration. I liked having this new passion that I could share with the beau and our friends, it provided social opportunities as well as a wide variety of delicious tastes. Even now, tea can be a huge talking point for me, allowing for new social experiences and shared tastes. : )

well its not so weird lady spades, i’m a very nervous person myself and it realy realy helps to calm down after a long frustrating workday. Sometimes i’m just counting down on my job to be able to brew my next cuppa tea! Just the idea off drinking and tasting a very good brew is relaxing on its own :)

I started drinking tea to help me stop drinking so much soda. The fact I discovered loose tea, and so many yummy flavors and kinds of tea helped me stick with my resolution this time even though I’d failed previous times when I tried to switch to seltzer or other non-soda beverages. I love the scents and getting packages in the mail with new teas to try. Such a wide world of flavors and culture

If you don’t drink soda long enough it will make you feel sick when you do again. I recently learned this the hard way. I’ve never been much of a pop drinker but I gave up on even the occasional one and now can’t enjoy it at all, it’s sickeningly sweet and upsets mu tummy. : (

My boyfriend drinks seltzer water when we go out- he’s a monster! I can’t handle the sugar in soda either.

uniquity, i used to drink loads off soda, when i started drinking loads and loads off coffeeit got better but when i started drinking tea i stop all my soda use. Well not 100% allways but maybe one very small glass with my evening dinner and to be honest i cannot handle more soda in one go or i get stomach pain… thank god for tea!

Darky, my big disappointment hit when I realized that my beloved Christmas punch (gingerale and a mixture of juices) is WAY too sweet to enjoy any more! A sip now and then is a nice treat but as I say, I was never a huge pop drinker. My fiancee was a Pepsi addict though and he has almost entirely ‘recovered.’ : )

Put simply, I love the stuff.

I started drinking it because I was collecting tea cups and miniature tea sets and stuff, because they gave me such joy in my childhood … and I finally decided to try drinking something that would go in the tea cups. I thought it would be fun to take my daughter (she was quite young then, but is now 20 years old) to a tea room, so we went to have tea and it was quite an eye opening experience for me because it was my first experience with loose leaf. I thought tea only came in bags and was packaged in yellow boxes before that. So I started to explore loose leaf tea …

Back then, I was still drinking coffee in the morning to help me wake up, and I finally realized that it was making me sick … so I switched to tea to get my caffeine and was happy to notice no sickness associated with it. Since then I’ve become obsessed with it.

It does certainly help calm me (I am agoraphobic), and it also helps me with my occasional bouts with migraines. Just more reasons to love it.

It tastes great, it’s an interesting hobby that allows me to treat myself, and it shouldn’t break the bank. It’s also fairly good for me too so long as I mix things up and don’t drink highly caffeinated teas all day. I like that it requires me to pay attention to what I’m drinking to – just pause and enjoy a moment.

Now that I know about dessert teas I’m loving that I can substitute tea for cake. (Sometimes)

Oh and I like the social aspects too. I can’t wait until my daughter is big enough that I can share tea (rooibos/herbal to start) with her!

Lots of variety; better for me than coffee; and it brings back childhood memories of a little blue and white plastic Jasperware-inspired tea set and a much less stressful lifestyle.

Lady 0f Spaydes I don’t think it strange either. Drinking tea and caffeine in general helps my ADD. Tea works best for me as it does not make me jittery the way coffee does.
