Why do you drink tea?

Because tea is one of the few drinks that energizes while also letting you relax. It’s a beautiful balance! :)

1. Because I like the taste

2. It’s the best source of cafeine.

3. Because it has health benefits.

4. Because everything else (it makes me feel calm, the process, etc).

All at the same time.

First the how. I grew up in a Lipton household and hated tea from a young age, becoming a coffee and soda drinker instead. I read a blog in late 2013 that was extolling the virtues of several fine Ceylons so ordered them from Upton, which proved to be the eye-opener for me. A month later a kindly proprietor in a tiny Chinese restaurant shared some of her personal shou Puerh with me and it rocked my world. I found Steepster while trying to research that Puerh and my horizons have since exploded.

So, why? Several reasons. I love the different energies I get from various teas, some calming, some make me want to get up and move. The flavors are all across the spectrum and are so enjoyable to me that I was able to give up my soda habit. I like that it is not a structured activity; I can throw some leaves in a travel thermos and dash out the door, brew up a big Western mug and watch TV, or sit by my tea table and meditate over a particular tea for several hours. And I really enjoy the sense of community here at Steepster, where we enable each other in a gentle and loving way.

I admit that I find it kind of amusing that I rediscovered this thread just when I’ve started drinking coffee again. Iced coffee with caramel from Kroger….mmm makes my mouth water just talking about it. Though have not quit drinking tea;)

I just like tea but it has wonderful memories for me too. When I was a kid and there was a crisis in the family, everyone pulled together. That would mean a pot of tea was brewed and we would all sit around talking.

There were plenty of times spent sharing a tea in the early morning hours with one of my favourite aunts. I always love the early morning hours and think of her whenever I am having a tea at that time.

I drink tea because I love the taste and there are so many different varieties. I feel like the world of tea is more expansive than the world of coffee, and I love my coffee, too.

I also drink tea for the health benefits. And it just makes me feel good!

Drinking tea is something that I got into on my own, about a couple years ago. I have never been a big tea fan, but I got fascinated by how vast the world of tea is, and surprised at how much I enjoyed discovering and being knowledgeable about different teas. My flavour profile at the moment is quite wide, and I am able to really enjoy various kinds of teas, from each tea category. I love opening my tea cupboard and letting the fresh mix of aromas from all my different teas wash over me. Brewing my favourite cup of tea is a wonderful, comforting thing, and brewing a completely new tea is exciting and feels adventurous. That is why I love tea!
