I need help Identifying 2 Teavana "mystery teas"!

To my surprise, I recieved a package from my best friend Irina on Saturday!=D In it were 2 Adagio sample tins full of tea. Unfortunately, they are unmarked and, even more unfortunately, Irina forgot what they are. All she could tell me is that they are both from Teavana and that tea A is an oolong and tea B is a strawberry tea. Tea A has tightly rolled leaves and chunks in it LOL. There are things that look like chocolate covered raisins only slightly green in color and lighter golden colored things. I tried one and they are rather soft and slightly chewy. Maybe fruit? Apple? It smells chocolatey, but I’m detecting something I think is raisin. (You know what they say about taste and smell being in your head? It’s true! Blind taste and smell tests are so much more difficult when you’re used to depending on all 5 senses.) Tea B has long, slender, almost twig or needle shaped leaves (wirey, not smooth and sleek like silver or emerald needle) that are white and greenish in color mixed in w/ the strawberry- although there appears to be something else here as well. There are pink pieces I assume to be strawberry, but there are also orange pieces. It really bothers me to drink a tea I can’t identify for 2 reasons: I can’t log it, and- much more importantly, I don’t know how to prepare it and I don’t want my ignorance to jepordize my making this correctly- I did that WAY too much early in my tea drinking. Can anyone PLEASE help me? They both smell SO good and I wanna drink them NOW! Hehe;)

I have no digital camera and even if I did I have no clue how to upload them. I’ll try to figure it out by the pics on the website or at least post possibilities.

Ok I think AmazonV and I have identified Tea B as Garden Aria White Tea… although it’s so hard since there’s more “stuff” in the picture online. No clue about the oolong though… none look even close to being similar…

unfortunately the teas are always a bit more colorful online, the real ones have much more leaf and less stuff

Could Tea A be Sweet Oolong Revolution?

perhaps if you assume it is for now, and brew it…maybe the tastes will confirm or deny the thought?

Cofftea said

Perhaps. Or perhaps that assumption will skew my tongue’s perception of it. I’ve never had SOR so I don’t have anything to compare it to.

i’ve shied away from all oolongs so i haven’t tried any either, hopefully a passionate oolong lover pops in – i sooo wish you computer or phone had a little camera alas we’ll have to consider it a mystery game for now ‘guess the oolong’ – oh dear when i get home i’ll check the old teavana book and see if they recently discontinued any – how long ago was it purchased?

Haha no clue. I assume relatively recently. I love oolongs that arent’ roasty!

sweet oolong revolution has a really “fall/autumn” taste to it, because i think theres pumpkin in it. it also has some sort of cinammon-y flavor..ish? Either way, teavana says that 1 minute at 195 degrees or something for all oolongs. So even if you don’t know exactly which one it is, you can still make it and try to determine after tasting? SOR is such a tasty tea though, i need to restock mine!

Do you have a Teavana near you? If so, maybe take your tea on a field trip and see if the folks as Teavana can identify them?

If I did I wouldn’t bother people w/ my problem. Unfortunately the nearest one is an hr and a half away. :(

I’ve had to do this before, identifying teavana teas (always Teavana, for some reason),
but I don’t think I can help much without actually tasting the teas… I’m also out of touch with Teavana’s selection of anything incorporated over the past few months.
Hope the links help, and good luck.

These links are of no help as I’ve already attempted to compare my samples to the pics online w/ no luck, at least for the oolong. I do not believe either tea (I know tea A is an oolong so tea B would be the only one in question) to be a green tea anyway- I believe it to be a white tea, Garden Aria. Thanks anyway though.

They generally will give you a label sticker with the name and brewing instructions for every tea you purchase. Be sure to remove the stickers to a tin when needed.
Teavana’s tea has more complex ingredient with real fruits/spices/herbs together with tea leaves. That might be the reason why it is harder to identify their names once you lost the stickers.

I didn’t lose the stickers, I was never given them. The Toasted Nut Brulee sounds closest but mine has no rooibios, coconut, and has huge things that look like raisinetts I can’t identify.

If the oolong tea has nutty and slight spicy notes in the cup, it could be Toasted Nut Brulee Oolong Tea. Check out this link:
http://www.teavana.com/The-Teas/Oolong-Teas/Toasted-Nut-Brulee-Oolong-Tea.axd.
Oolong tea, Rooibos tea, apple bits, candied pineapple bits, candied papaya bits, cinnamon, roasted chicory root, ginger bits, coconut chips, roasted almonds, hazelnut bits, and cardamom. Use 1 teaspoon of tea per 8oz of water. Heat water to 195 degrees and steep tea for up to 3 minutes.
Garden Aria White Tea: 175 degree for 2 minutes. Not to over brew for too long and water not too hot. Enjoy!

That’s what I was thinking… but I see no coconut or rooibos… (thank God!)

I really do think it’s Sweet Oolong Revolution
