Official *What did you get in the mail today?* Thread!!!
Swap from Lariel (thanks for the Persimmon Tree surprise sample!)
Some very generous samples from Teasenz for review :)
My Single Origin Teas order arrived – Vietnam Black OP1 and Jun Chiyabari Second Flush. Yum!
MzPriss – The (M)UTTB introduced me to soooo many new teas that I need. These two are the start of a fairly long shopping list. Next month I’ll hopefully be able to make my Mandala order. I need my own supply of Special Dark. :)
HOLY CRAP!!! I got the Marco Polo box today and it is HUGE!!! It’s at least 3 times as big as most of our TTBs. It is filled with chock full of goodness. This is the box of samples from a variety of companies. It looks totally awesome.
Oooh… It’s difficult to get a box from a tea company with no tea! I ordered 2 glass mugs with steeping baskets in them for friends and got a single tea tin for myself…. My first order from David’s Tea. Ordered No tea. Got 3 herbal samples included for free, but I’ve learned my lesson!
Swap from Cheri! She was kind to resend Valley Peak from the Unflavored TTB my way and spare some of her Tai Ping Hou Kui and Sunlight Blend.
A few days ago I received an awesome package from Scribbles.
I had posted a tasting note talking about how much I love Assam teas and she offered to send me a bunch of Assams without anything is return.
Scribbles, you are awesome!
(Also I tried to post this two days ago but I couldn’t find this thread by wading through all the threads, and it would not pull up when I searched – even searching for the exact name brought up everything but…)
Awwww!!! Thank you for your kind words!! :)
I hope you find something that you enjoy!
Happy sipping!! A…
I got some assams from Tao of Tea, Joseph Wesley, House of Tea (Toronto), and a few other goodies.
My absolute favorite is any CTC assam really. But also Tiger Assam from A&D is pretty high up there, Nina’s Paris Assam is also good.
I got my Whispering Pines order today. Yay!!
I opened the box, looked at my teas, and thought Brenden forgot to include a note, which is one of the things I love about ordering from him. Then I found it stuck to the edge of the box. =)
He included a sample that is a tea I wanted to try but hadn’t quite gotten to yet, so it was perfect, too!
So, this is less happy than a normal “what I got in the mail today” post. I ordered some teaware from Aliexpress that is all starting to come in. So far, they have a 50% success rate :/. I got some double walled cups and a tray, which were both fine. I also ordered matching small and big cha hai pitchers (for solo or tea party gongfu sessions). I got the big one in the mail first. Here’s how it arrived:
Note the giant crack running from the spout to the bottom :(. Well, I opened a dispute and the refund was processed without question, but I don’t have the pitcher so I’m still bummed.
Then, the small one arrived today. This is what I ordered:
And here’s what I received:
Like, wtf it’s not even the same pitcher. At least it’s not broken? I haven’t decided if I’m just going to keep it or open another dispute. I mean, I like it, it’s just not the one that I wanted to buy.
These were two different sellers, so I guess I’m just having bad luck but it makes me not want to order from Aliexpress anymore.
P.S. My parents are in town until Tuesday and then I’m leaving on Wednesday to go out of town for Labor Day weekend, so I’ll be ghosting around Steepster til after Labor Day. I miss my tea friends though!
Aww that stinks. :( I’d bring it to the seller’s attention that it is not the one you ordered.
Sorry that you have had some negative experiences so far. Its too bad the first one was cracked it was cute, but I’m glad you have a refund. I’d contact the seller about the cha bai first before entering a dispute. The description shows different coloured handles, so he might say that you didn’t specify so it was chosen at random, but the pitcher you received appears to be a different shape, so its worth contacting them. Most dealers will try to resolve things for you before that stage. I had a parcel go missing in post once and mentioned to the seller that tracking showed that it was stuck/ lost at the airport and they resent me another one by courier without me even asking them to. Sellers like to avoid going into dispute, if at all possible. I’m glad your happy with the other items!
And now the seller is insisting that the pitchers are the same and that the angle of the picture is just different…not pleased.
At least Aliexpress has a good system for disputes. I was praying my teapot today would come in unbroken because with Taobao Focus and the other Taobao Proxies the buyer takes the risk if it is broken. I would have been out about $85.
Yes, I’m disputing it :(. Hopefully that turns out ok.
Allan, I’m glad your yixing arrived unharmed!!
Good luck with your dispute, in my understanding the buyer usually wins on Aliexpress.
I got my order from Seven Sisters today (they do teas from The Tea Emporium, plus a lot of blends that Tea Emporium doesn’t stock directly.)
Cream of Avalon
Pecan Pie Rooibos
Honey Fig Tree
I pretty much placed this order just to get Cream of Avalon, and the rest was to make shipping worthwhile, but I’m excited to try all of these.
They threw in two free tins too, which is awesome, and will help with splitting this order between me and my non-live-in partner.
