Bonavita kettle

I wanted one – but then I read all the reviews about how the fuse is undersized and after some months its dies and needs a new fuse. I don’t want to have to replace fuses – it’s apparently not easy.

For me the base always worked fine, it was the kettle that gave out after 16 months use. The funny thing is even with the replacement part from the fine folks of Bonavita, I feel the same thing will happen again. I used it 3-5 times a week for my brewing sessions and who wants that stuff floating around in their kettle. I have the Hamilton Beach also which is a year older and no problems with flakes or rust. It’s a shame cause the Bonavita design is perfect for pouring in tight places. Motto: live and learn and post

My base also still works fine after over a year of use, everyday, several times a day, and even with the hold temperature function. No flaking or rusting.
The only problem I had was that my 1.7L model with the flip cap, the plastic eventually wore out at the cap hinges and needed some help opening around the 10 month mark. At about the 11 month mark the lid completely came off, but Bonavita CS were great and sent me an entirely new kettle. I still use the old one without the lid in another area of the house, and it’s not a problem unless I pour too quickly for the spout.
Other than that I’ve had problems with mineral deposits on the bottom, but that is systemic with all my kettles, so it’s probably more because of my water, not the kettle.

That gives me hope that my replacement will be replaced.

I have the standard model (without temp control) and it works great. Never had any issues with rust. I leave water in it all the time.

Just received my replacement for the rusted top, flaky bottom pot of yore. The new pot was the premium model, nice of them to upgrade me. I notice the lid was now plastic and affixed, OK by me, and they also sent a new controller, OK by me. Then I did a silly thing and filled it with water. Being a larger model 1.7 liter, it was precarious for me to pick up with my arthritis. I know, don’t fill it so high, but I never did have any common sense. I placed my opposite hand gently under the crook-neck and headed to the controller. Well it never made it, the crook-neck came off at its attachment and the water all over the place. I don’t know if I should ask for another replacement or just stick with my Hamilton Beach or try a newer brand. Has any one tried the Ovente KS88S?

Here’s my review on the Bonavita kettle

TLDR, Bonavita has no boil dry protection and the hold button is of nightmares. I’d probably just get the boil only one.

Also the Cuisinart variable temp kettle http://oolongowl.com/cuisinart-cpk-17-perfectemp-variable-temperature-kettle-review/

Mine is 3 years old and still working like a champ with no signs of rust. The max temp is 212 and it often tops out at 211 but that is not a big deal for me. It’s not the fastest heating kettle in the world and I often use a different one when brewing with water at full boil, but it is still pretty quick. The hold button is not a big deal for me and encourages mindfulness even at the earliest stage of tea making. The beauty of the pot encourages a smile even when empty. I’m quite happy with it and value the form as well as precision heating.
