Need teaware advice!
I need some advice for an all around tea teapot. I have tons of yixing that I use for specific teas, but every once in awhile I want to brew something flavored or outside of what my yixing pots are dedicated to. I’m looking to buy either a glass or porcelain teapot to brew things such as rooibos, earl greys, or teas for when I want to brew a larger amount of tea. I still don’t want anything much bigger than 16 oz. Should I get glass or porcelain? I don’t want anything to keep flavor from the prior tea.
Based on my experience, porcelain is much easier for upkeep. Glass will eventually get permanently stained, even it is cleaned after each use. I would avoid anything that a narrow spout that might be hard to clean.
For basic teaware David’s Tea is definitely a good place to start. Their bubble teapots are $20 and come in lots of colors. I’ll also second Ellyn’s recommendation on Beehouse. A local place I go to uses them for their tea service and they are very practical.
I tend to favor glass teapots, since I can watch the leaves brew. I particularly love watching rolled oolong leaves slowly unfurl.
You might want to look into a Gaiwan. That are very easy to clean and available in both porcelain and glass.
