First time blending- tips please!
Hi all.
So my girlfriend and I thought it would be fun to get some basic supplies and spend an afternoon blending some teas ourselves. I’ve heard success stories and horror stories; I’m wondering if there’s any ingredients that are particularly useful, or any tools, etc? (I know nothing about blending)
Mcnulty’s in the city has a lot of things for about $1 an oz (basic blacks, mint leaves, chamomile, lavender) so we figured we could get some of that and have a ball. Any advice? Are there any inredients you find easier to blend?
I think it honestly depends on your taste. Just experiment and see what you like. My favorites are black tea mixed with a herbal blend. Mint with green tea. Rose or a flowery tea with a strong black or a smokey tea(lapsang souchong). Use spices, sweeteners and flavourings in just about anything (vanilla, cinnamon, nutmeg, cloves, peppercorns, honey, etc). Be adventurous and let up know the results!!
I just don’t understand how you get a liquid flavoring into a dry leaf.
I guess I should have worded it better. I often add vanilla and such while brewing, not while blending. My bad :)
I saw an article where this was, in fact done. I will try to find it and post links; they suggested a drop of a flavoring, shaken up with the tea, then you have to wait 36 hours before adding another flavor
Azzrian, I’ve been looking this up. It seems, or from most of what I’ve seen is that you would wet say a piece of cheese cloth with the flavouring oil & put it in with the leaves & allow the leaves to basically absorb the flavour/scent
Thanks everyone! I bought some butterscotch flavoring that I want to add to something – have not decided yet. I just love butterscotch and was ordering herbs and it was right there on the screen – impulse buy. :) Now I have to use it.
Artp;
I do believe there are some other topics here as well on this. Try the search, you may yeild some more results.
If you’ve ever had (and like) Adagio’s Foxtrot, it’s pretty easy to replicate: rooibos, chamomile, little peppermint.
