Yogic Chai wins 1st place, 3rd in a row, for Chai at North American Tea Championship!

Dear Steepsters, we are proud to announce our Original Masala Chai won 1st place for Chai at the North American Tea Championship! This is our 3rd year participating and winning 1st place :)

We appreciate those of you who have been supporting our company and felt the need to share the news with you. Below is a copy of our press release, which should go out tomorrow or Friday.

Happy Tuesday!
Ricardo @ Yogic Chai

Montclair, New Jersey. (March 12, 2013) – Yogic Chai’s Original Masala Chai wins 1st place for the Chai category at the 2012 North American Tea Championship. Close to 200 teas were evaluated in 23 different categories. The North American Tea Championship is the only professionally judged tea competition in North America, whose goal is to distinguish the highest quality & best tasting teas commercially available in the North American marketplace.

At the North American Tea Championship, each entry is evaluated blind and through an organoleptic analysis of the following characteristics: dry leaf, brewed color, brewed aroma, brewed flavor, brewed mouth feel and brewed harmony. An overall numerical value on a 100 point scale is then calculated based on the ratings of each characteristic above.

“We were very excited when we received the good news, being that it was our third time participating and winning 1st place. Although we have won in previous years, we have continued to improve our Masala Chai recipe. Such small & subtle improvements have proven to be in the right direction every year” says Ricardo & Angela Da Costa, founders of Yogic Chai.

Unlike other tea companies in the market that sell different varieties of teas, such as green, white, black, oolong, etc., Yogic Chai specializes solely on Masala Chai. They have become to be known as the place-to-go-to for authentic artisan chai. All their blends are made in the USA with 100% Organic Ingredients. Sold in loose form of various sizes.

“ The fact and sad part is that the general population have yet to experience what a cup of Masala Chai tastes like, says Ricardo Da Costa. I continue to be dissapointed by the type of Chai that is served at most coffee shops and trade shows in the USA. Concentrates filled with high amounts of sugars to counteract the citric flavor from the preservatives used. Unlike the nourishing, warming and energizing flavors that I found in the streets of India, the use of flavorings instead of freshly ground spices have made the American interpretation of Chai to be an overly sweet beverage with hardly any spiced taste. A beverage that is avoided by anyone who is health & weight coscious.”

Our goal for this and future years is to be able to change that, says Angela Da Costa, by offering Coffee shop owners an alternative method, a Chai pouch, sort of like a giant tea bag, which will allow them to brew their own concentrate without much labor. A process that will not only save them money but will surely increase their profits by serving a beverage that when brewed correctly, can be quite addictive and good for you.

Thank you so much for your kind words! We really hope to see Coffee shops switch to better quality Chai. It is really sad most people have not yet taste a good cup of Chai or that their idea of Chai is something completely different to what Chai really is.
