Stop me before I buy more tea!

OMG, my first order from Teavivre just shipped, and I’ve already placed another order from Butiki. Places I had never heard of a few weeks ago!

When I was on my first serious tea kick a few years ago, I thought the pinnacle was Adagio and Upton. Having fun with all this new stuff!

Lol! That’s totally me right now. I never buy anything the way I’m buying tea. The promotions and finding new companies is killing me! Haha! I was thinking that I would try only one new tea per day, and promise to not buy more until I don’t have anymore new teas. Not sure if that’s going to work!

I know! Here I was thinking the order from Teavivre would keep me busy for a month at least. I can’t stop myself, though!

Tell me about it! I need to buy some appropriate-sized bags so I can start swapping.

i started out with the snack-sized ziplocks coz that’s all that was available. and then i got a thousand little baggies, now down to my last 100+ but will be switching to those silver ziplocks soon coz they do not transfer scents to other tea as per advice from fellow Stpstrites :)

Silver ziplocks…? Tell me more!

Those are expensive. Double bags the strong scents.

I went through that phase but then my funding was always low and eventually ran out; that put a stop to my always buying tea seemingly. Now, I have catalogs already filled out for when I can snag a few bucks here and there.

Most dumb of me; anyhow, good luck to you and happy teas!

I had this EXACT SAME PROBLEM last month and the month before. There were all these companies I had never heard of! With highly rated teas! That I wanted to try! And I couldn’t stop myself from making a couple of orders a week at a pace that I would never be able to drink up. It calms down eventually, Rachel, just try to hold on for the ride.

I love the fact that I’m not alone here. This happened to me a few years ago too. You guys should have SEEN my tea collection! My family thought I was absolutely nuts, and I had no one to obsess with. Glad to have found you guys!

Don’t worry – you are definately not alone!
I was on a buying streak all last month. I had AT LEAST two orders on the way every week! It was bad…haha
I’m now calming down, and I have put myself on a buying haitus. No more new tea until I can get through a bunch of the teas I already have. I haven’t even tried a bunch of them yet.

I JUST resisted buying Zen Tea’s matcha on sale by clicking out of the mail/billing information page in time, but I bought a couple Teavana teas because of their temporary free shipping :( Totally worth it for the Mudslide Rooibos, though.

I’m holding off on buying tea (namely oolongs and puerhs) from stores such as Verdant and Butiki until I buy a gaiwan/gongfu set (for my birthday in less than two months – eeeeeeeeee!). I’d love to learn to prepare tea that way.

Kiwi, you are going to hate me but I have to let you know:
RoT has free shipping on orders over 50 too :)

and there is a video on how to do gong fu w/o a gaiwan over at the verdant website :D

like you, i resisted the ZenTea matcha too…but I’m waiting for a sale on their EGC :D

I only go for free shipping if it’s free no matter how much I spend, and I try not to spend more than 30 dollars at once. I can’t imagine more than 50 dollars…yet O_O

I bookmarked the page for future reference. Thanks :D

ZenTea rocks. And I separated matcha and tea spending to justify some matcha purchases (: haha. I am running out and /need/ some more.

I love steepster, but the worst thing about it is the constant sale notices. I thought I’d been really good with my one order for March and then along comes another sale and I don’t know if I can resist. One thing is that it is really broadening my (tea) horizons

Emily M said

I avoid the “Sales” threads as much as possible, because I am sooo very weak willed. haha
Sometimes you just can’t avoid them, though.

That sales thread…oy!

Rachel J said

Hahaha… I’ve avoided them so far.

Emily M said

I only look at them when I am looking to buy tea!

But then you miss out on the awesome GCs.

I know…but I don’t need the temptation!
Or the tea, really. =P

How long ago was your first tea kick? Because a while back, Adagio and Upton were the best tea places (and teachat was the place to go). This was pre-Steepster.

From spring of 2006 through fall of 2009. I quit caffeine when I decided to have a baby (that took 2 years), and stayed off until I was done nursing. So happy to be back to it! Though I swore to myself I wouldn’t “overdo it” this time. Oops!

Babble said

Yep! Sounds about my time perod too. Wow how the landscape has changed, eh?

Rachel J said

Yes! I thought maybe I just missed these places before, but can it be they have all sprung up since then? My teas back then were all from: Adagio, Upton, Harney’s, and Republic of Tea.
