Bengali Salt Tea
Was researching something totally different for a children’s writing project and came across these recipes for Bengali tea:

Ok that sounds unappetizing but maybe it’s good?
Huh… might have to try that, I really like the hint of salty flavor some of my teas have, an actual salty tea might be yummy.
It probably is really good, it sounds kind of savory. In India I actually had lots of beverages made with salt instead of sugar including lassis and lemonade. It was especially good during the really hot dry pre-monsoon weather in Rajhastan, by the time I left there, they were in the midst a drought and somedays had 52 degree celsius ( @ 125F) weather!
125: ay-yi-yi!…in which case, adding a little salt to your beverage makes perfect sense!
It was pretty brutal. Most people that could reversed there schedule (ie. in the countryside people worked in the fields at night by torch light). Absolutely no one was on the street during the day, people slept in the shops and drank copious amounts of tea. The city only came alive around dusk. I also discovered the benefits of headscarves and veils (creates wind as you walk, keeps the sun off your face can be dipped in water and the act of evaporation also cools you down). They also added water to the environment to cool you down, rather than taking it away ( where I was, was semi-arid). The evenings and nights were amazing though. It was an interesting experience.
