WOW. Thanks for taking the time to put all of that up, Carolyn. I think I’m going to get that book — well, after Xmas when presumably I’ll have some money.
Awesome guys! Thanks so much for all the info, Rena and Carolyn! Caffeine is a very tricky thing. I just wanted to point out to everyone that white tea really doesn’t have less caffeine than any of the other teas. This is advertised so much! I don’t want some newbie teaites (such as myself) to drink white tea right before bed, thinking that there’s a lot less caffeine in it!
Now that I’ve got the bit in my teeth, here’s a bit from Stash web site. Granted, this may be a bit of biased research, but I thought I’d throw it into the mix:
White tea (one tea bag or equivalent in 8oz cup), ranged from 6 – 25 mg of caffeine. http://www.stashtea.com/caffeine.htm
Interesting to note that the average caffeine amount in decaf black tea is 2mg.
Yep. Decaf doesn’t mean caffeine free.
This is soooo good to know!!! I’m very interested and very appreciative for all the info-thank you all!!!
From the perspective of a college, no. From the perspective of my doctors, I should be dead or at least have some sort of heart condition.
I use to drink about 5-10 cups of coffee a day, starting with 1-2 in middle school building up to college. Now I’ll drink 3-12 cups of tea a day, mixing maybe a cup or two of coffee in.
Bah, you can never have too much tea! ;)
Where your tastebuds are concerned I completely agree Jillian, but when it comes to organs that may be a different story lol.
I can sum it up in one word: Hah.
I’ve done days where I’ve drunken my way through six or seven pots of tea. If I could substitute my meals for tea, I would. And, in my case, the caffeine isn’t much of an issue – I grew up with the stuff. So if a cuppa tea is going to substitute a canna coke, good trade-off, no?
I completely agree. Especially if you drink it unsweetened. But even if you drink it sweet (unless of course it’s to the point of being teeth rotting sweet lol), it’s still better. Not only do you get the health benefits of tea, but I’ve always thought that a crap load of carbonation can’t be good for you.
There was also a news article saying that drinking tea is linked to oesophagus cancer…
But the results in the actual paper seemed to link the cancer with drinking things that were too hot. Basically if you scald your mouth as you drink the tea then it’s bad for you in the long term (as well as the long term). I’m not too concerned but I suppose it’s a possible issue if you’re looking for a limit of ‘too much’ tea.
I can’t remember where the links are but I summarised it on my blog here: http://grinnyguy.blogspot.com/2009/04/under-fire-tea-still-perfect.html
I drink a minimum of 6 cups a day…all different kinds usually. I like to mix it up that’s why I buy all sorts…never get bored that way…
I’m right there with ya on that!
That’s why I love teas that change in flavor the more you steep them (i.e. the fruit flavor gradually disappears). That way you can change what you’re drinking w/o changing what you’re drinking. You don’t get bored and you don’t waste tea or $. It’s important to drink what you like, but getting sick of what you like is very sad!
Mug of tea with breakfast, and mid morning, a couple over lunch, and another for midafternoon, a pot or so with dinner, and an evening drink now and then … who’s counting!
Definetly a variety of tea depending on the time and mood.
