How Do You Combat Tea Stains On Your Teeth?
Tea is great stuff but one of the drawbacks can be that drinking a lot of tea can lead to stained teeth. I am currently using a Crest 3d Luxe toothpaste to combat this. Just curious what others here use to keep your teeth pearly white?
I use Colgate Total, with the gel rather than the paste. My teeth are pretty sensitive. Two cups of black tea later and they look pretty scary, but I found that toothpaste does a great job at reverting them back to normal.
baking soda and peroxide. Best thing i’ve found to whiten. tastes awful, but it works
Brush or chew gum after drinking black tea. Use Crest Whitestrips once or twice a week to keep teeth white.
I’m so glad somebody asked this! I have been wondering about the same thing. I have tried whitestrips but they make my teeth so sensitive and painful! If only there was a tea that whitened teeth…
I usually try to drink a cup of water soon after my tea to rinse my teeth. I don’t suppose most of the tannins stick fast right away. I also figure that having some water after my tea helps counteract the dehydration effect of the caffeine in an otherwise hydrating cup of “flavored water.”
I use Rembrandt Intense Stain toothpaste, it’s a little expensive but it works wonders. A good cleaning at the dentist twice a year helps as well.
I brush everyday with this natural toothpaste called Auromere. http://www.amazon.com/AUROMERE-Toothpaste-Herbal-4-16-oz/dp/B000774DQI/ref=sr_1_63?ie=UTF8&qid=1369111658&sr=8-63&keywords=natural+toothpaste I’m pretty sure this is the brand. I’m not at home right now to check..but it works quite nicely:)
oh yay, something new to me that is not filled with a thousand toxic chemicals! I am super sensitive to just about every commercial toothpaste, especially to ones with SLS. Ill have to check this one out. :)
Hmm. I wonder if this would work as something I could use relatively soon after using my inhaler in the morning/at night. My dentist recommended not brushing too soon afterwards as the large particle poweder of toothpaste can damage already weakened enamel (also from steroids) YAY ASTHMA.
I was wondering if anyone has tried straws to minimize the tea’s contact with one’s teeth. There’s a product called Coffee Straws which is BPA free and disposable, there are stainless steel straws, and then there’s this:

Regular straws for cold beverages would not be healthy because they’d melt at least a bit.
All I could think of when looking at those glass straws was all the ways I’d hurt myself with them. I’ll look into the coffee straws, have you tried them? I’m curious if it affects taste or the drinking experience.
I have not tried any kind of straw, but I guess the idea began when I saw those gourds and straws used to drink yerba mate. I try not to linger over tea, and sip some water after drinking tea, but gosh, lingering and tea seem made to go together. I think straws make change the taste a bit, I mean…imagine asking wine drinkers to savor wine through a straw…seems a bit off putting. Still! You never know!
