Dunking.
I dunk biscotti in coffee for sure. Also cinnamon scones in my coffee.
With cream tea…. dark chocolate Lady Walton’s! The hot tea softens up the rich chocolate center…so yummy. The Lady Walton’s really do not drop much of any crumbs in the cup either.
I used to dunk biscotti in my English Breakfast tea, but that is the only dunking I recall!
Dunking is a grand tradition in Ireland, and UK too, I’m pretty sure. I never liked chocolate-covered biscuits (cookies, in US parlance) dunked myself, but both my daughters do. Other than that, it’s all good. The risk of losing half your biscuit to the cup is just part of the fun. :)
Grand tradition, I like that! I studied abroad in the UK and very much liked the regular tea times. I think it’s something we should get going stateside.
Now you’ve got me kind of curious about whether dunking is mostly a British/Irish thing. I think biscotti are more “properly” dunked in sweet wine rather than tea, but what about Russia and their jam in tea? Any baked goods typically put in there too? World tour to study the practice is clearly necessary! :) I wish.
