was having a great day today drinking the YS 2012 Wuliang,…. till I just caught my mother using my puerh pick to unclog the vacuum cleaner and now i want to die…
Hey, it is a handy tool! I was using an awl until I got my puerh pick. It is such a good shape for unclogging small spaces! Make her a pot of tea and show her what it is actually for, or get her a spare one for the vacuum.
Multitasking tool. But I’m sorry she found it.
I need to get one actually. I’ve been using my smallest knitting needle! LOL
Great post, I know it is not funny but I did chuckle.
I’m sorry, but I laughed.
I’m kind of shy to actually post in this thread. I’m definitely not as experienced as most of you wonderful folks. Anyway, today I drank 2007 Yong De Organic Ripe Pu’erh from Mandala. I drank it all day! The leaves just wouldn’t quit! It is VERY nice shu. Rich and creamy with just enough earthiness and sweetness and no funk. I love that it is organic, too :)
Thanks for the note. I try to find organic whenever possible, and this sounds quite good. I’ll give it a try if it is still available on my next order from Mandala.
You should absolutely post in this thread – you are likely more experienced than I am. And here’s where I learn stuff.
Yeah we’re all learning.
btw, I checked with the folks at TeaUrchin. I learned that they send from Shanghai, so it takes about 3 weeks.
I need to place an order with Mandala. ill probably order this one as well. Thank you for the note Stephanie.
It was good, probably in my top 3 shu so far from Mandala. The other 2 faves being special dark and noble mark.
Thanks for the welcome everyone!
And looking forward to the TeaUrchin order Yang-chu!
You join right in. The more the merrier and the more we learn from one another!
2005 LangHe Gong Ting Round Cake Ripe
I’ve been working with this one over the past two days and I have thoroughly enjoyed it. I’ve picked up a few different LangHe tea cakes over the last few months but this was my first time opening and enjoying one. I found it to be smooth, silky, sweet and rich with slight leather and tobacco tones. Easy to drink and very pleasant in the mouth.
I have been drinking the 2005 Six Famous Tea Mountain Jia Ji Raw Pu-erh Tuocha from Mengla in Xishuangbanna for the last three days. (Purchased here: http://www.tuochatea.com/6ftm-jia-ji-pu-erh-tuocha-p2/). It is quite interesting as it has changed each time I’ve tried it over several days. I brews to a light orange color, and at first was rich, mouthfilling, smoky, and citric. Later steepings have been “younger” tasting to me and current steep #11 is back to alfalfa, green, and mouth watering. It isn’t the most intense tuo I’ve had, but it holds my interest, and I keep coming back to it for the taste and experience. Quite nice all in all.
Reviewed and loving Yezi Tea’s Yunnan Aged GuDian 2005 :) :) :)
Having Mandala’s Dehong maocha tonight.
Been waiting to get this one in a cup for a while now. Pulled 8 grams out to brew this with leaving room for the leaf to have plenty of room to open up. Hit it with a flash rinse and opened the lid on the Gaiwan to inhale the aroma, steamed broccoli and butter came to mind in this.
I did 3 quick steeps and put thin them all in a big mug so I could have it all at once.
It has a little zest to it. Lingering tastes of smoke in the front and a nice touch of green veggies that turns to an almost sweet potato flavor on the end. A very active taste profile in this one for sure. Touches of the tingle on the tongue that fades into a light sweetness on this one.
Very nice product right on pace of the quality of the Wild Monk maocha. Very lively where the Monk does the fast dance the Dehong does the slow dance to an easy soft beat.
Oh very lovely read here! I’d go for a puerh after reading this except I am on my 8th steep at least of a Dragonwell and giggly with caffeine as it is…my Wild Monk can nest comfortably for a little while longer…
V. nice. I have a dragonwell sitting in the fridge. Had it about 6 mths. The best I had came from a student of mine when I lived in DC. She was from Hang-zhou. This description sounds great and I love the creativity in serving up.
You make this sound so very delicious
Drinking Misty Peaks Spring 2014 sheng. Pleasant soft sweetness accompanied by a wonderful mouthfeel. Nice stuff, although, I think I prefer the 2012 Autumn.
I definitely liked the floral qualities of the autumn more. My wife, on the other hand, likes that really mellow vibe so characteristic of Yi Wu teas.
Sammerz314 and Yang-chu got me thinking about Misty Peak sheng, so I broke out the 2013 autumn version (pressed in Jan. 2014). I first logged into their website and watched the video of tea production (available here: http://www.mistypeakteas.com/#!aboutthefarmers/cee5). This is quite the mellow tea, that hints about the depth of its flavors. It is quite satisfying at the moment, but holds great promise for interesting change as it ages. I get floral aromas, citrus and alfalfa and a bit of smoke as young flavors, and a mouth watering sensation. I’m happy with this cake.
I agree. I think its the mellowness I enjoy.
Drinking Mandalas Wild Monk for the first time (courtesy of MrMopar). I got a slight smokiness with fruity notes in the nose… perhaps plum notes? A rather pleasant nose. The tea has a little bitterness to it that I am enjoying. There are also pleasant vegetal hints. The mouthfeel is pretty good. Nice tea that I’d give an 83/100. Mrmopar, is this the cake or maocha?
Getting notes of grapes now
Oh yeah I totally get the grapey thing with this. Wild Monk is soooo good!
That’s the maocha. It will change on each new steep. Complex and good!
Drinking a steeping of 2005 Xiaguan wild tree. Nice Xiaguan that seems to have less of that smokiness so often found in Xiaguans. Nice mouthfeel and qi. Will be steeping this all day. 80/100
Xiaguan is on my list to try sometime, that you have something more aged like a 2005 is awesome!
Cwyn the XiaGuan “Dream of the red Chamber” is nice also.
