Had the 2014 Jingmai Raw Puer from Mandala Tea this afternoon. It was tasty and strong. It was relaxing but I didn’t get that elusive tea buzz. It had notes of apricots and some bitterness in the early steeps. After about four steeps the bitterness disappeared completely. I think this tea could go the distance. I only steeped it eight times but judging by the strength of the eighth steep I think it could have gone for 15 steeps.

Drank the 2012 Bulang Gushu shou brick from Crimson Lotus tea tonight. It was quite good. Earthy and strong in the early infusions. It had notes of dark chocolate in the early infusions and sweet notes of berries in later infusions. I steeped it nine times. I think it too could have gone for 15 infusions. It was quite strong for a shou puerh.

Favorite place to get mini touchas (ripe)?

Depends on if you want variety of flavours. Ebay is good, however.

I like Lao Cang. I get them fr YS. Also YS got new mini tuos their own brand. im sure its good based on a pic. leaves are not like saw dust. Mandalas Temple Staires mini tuo was quite good . I might get some for travel on Cyber Monday ;)

Ha, I was JUST speaking to Garret and he recommended those.

Are you planning to get anything fr Mandala ? They are having great BF/CM deal.

Yup Noble Mark and Special Dark

Yeah, Ebay has the laocang as well. The nifty part about Ebay is just the selection. There are many Laocang flavours. I did a write up on a few of the flower blends that I mostly sell to other health professionals…http://universotea.com/content/flavored-puer-minis-flowers

+1 on the Temple Stairs mini tous. Also you might want to check out the little Chocolate Mini Bricks from White2Tea. They aren’t actually chocolate but they are nice and sweet and small.

Spent two days enjoying the 2005 MengSong Raw from Six Famous Tea Mountains. Pretty, long leaves form the cake which has an inviting fruity scent. Limited number of stems and pieces. Orange color in the tea soup. The sip yields an appealing fruity sweet flavor and suggests a thick and substantial body. In later cups there is a tiny bit of bitterness and both tobacco and woody flavors hit to offer a little balance and complexity. Good throat-feel where the sweetness continues to build. This is a straightforward tea made from decent leaves from one clearly identified growing area and I must say that I quite enjoyed my sessions yesterday and today. When I last checked, you could still find it at Angelina’s Teas for $45.

Bought my first ever pu-erh cake – from one of my local Asian grocers so I have limited info on it. Can only go by the western lettering on it which says Yunnan Gao Shan Yuan Cha Chu Ping. It is 2006 made by Yun Cha Piao Xiang company.

I won’t review it just yet (I tried it when I was getting over a cold and still had somewhat diminished sense of smell/taste) but it tasted pleasant, slightly sweet, with mushroom notes, and something else which is familiar but I cannot put my finger on it. It is shou.

Have tried finding it online but cannot find any info about the company. Would at least like to know where in Yunnan it originates from. Gao shan = high mountain but that’s about all I know about the origin.

Pics may help to decipher.

mrmpopar, I have added it to the database here on Steepster, with a pic so you can have a look. :)

Going to take a look.

New one on me how is it?

Yang-chu said

Isn’t Gaoshan in the Yiwu region?

CherryJam said

Mrmopar – I will have to drink it again now that I’m getting over my cold and can taste better.

Yang-chu – apparently there’s a village called Gao Shan but I’m assuming on the cake these words are just referring to it being high mountain tea.

I had Shou and Sheng today, now having both together,a Shou-Sheng?

Nice, I’ve had a shou/sheng blend before that I bought that way! How was it?

The shou was more dominant in the taste but the had some smokey notes that came through and it was quite nice, smokey, earthy, sweet goodness :)

yum!
