Traveling Tea Box #2

It’s the sequel! We’re looking to startup another Traveling Tea Box since the first one was so hugely popular. A lot of people new to Steepster missed the first and we want everyone to have a chance.

Basic Details: We send out a box filled with all types of different teas. It goes to the next person on the list. That person can take out out whatever they want, so long as they replace it with items that are the same approximate weight (so shipping doesn’t vary too much). Then they send the box along to the next person on the list.

We will manage all of the email/mailing addresses internally (don’t post them publicly) so there’s no worry about privacy issues.

Please only participate if you are willing to be a good sport and be fair with what you take out/put back in (we’ll know where you live! ;). Don’t take the most expensive stuff and then replace it with the cheapest tea you can find. Honor system here folks.

We haven’t decided on all the details yet, but they will depend largely on how many people want to participate and where they live. If we have a ton of people, we may decide to break it up a little bit (the first has taken about 4 months to go half way down the list). But we’ll keep in mind getting a good diversity of people from different locations so you have a good chance of trying something you’ve never even heard of before.

If you’re interested, say so in this thread and we’ll figure out a plan that works best for everyone. Cheers!

P.S. If you have any ideas about how to make this better, feel free to let us know.

I personally like the “the more the merrier” idea verses splitting it up, I don’t think a smaller version (by splitting it up) would be nearly as much fun. Just my 2 cents.

Jason, could you please pin this so it’s most easily visable. If it gets moved to page 2 I don’t want people to miss it. I have a feeling not everyone uses the seach function and even if they do may not even think to search for a thread like this.

Yea, I’ll pin this if it drops too low (I don’t think it will though). I just want to keep it unpinned for now because I think sometimes people glance over those without realizing something changed.

Also, I totally understand the “more the merrier” idea and I think it’s a great way to make sure you get different teas from all over, we just have to make sure there’s a balance. If it takes a year+ for the TTB to make it’s rounds, that’s probably not the best thing because a lot happens in a year. But we’ll definitely keep that in mind :)

I’m bowing out since the 1st one got lost after leaving my posession. It’s only right. I will be stalking everyone’s tasting notes though:)

I “shared” this on FB- can people participate w/o signing up for Steepster? If so, who do they contact?

Jason select said

I think it would be best to limit it to people who are signed up. That way we can at least verify the email, since we’re sending a lot of tea around on good faith. Plus, you have to be registered to comment in the discussions anyways.

Cofftea said

True, I knew a person that wanted to sign up last time so I just had him contact Angrboda so I thought maybe a similar situation could be worked out.

Jason select said

Well tell them to get a Steepster account! The more the merrier, right? ;)

I’m all for recruiting more steepster members, but some people don’t want to sign up for a profile if the only thing they’d use it for is this one TTB. They’d rather skip the step of signing up and just email the contact person with their own contact info since they’d have to do that anyway.

I’m interested. By the time this gets going the local tea shop should be open for the summer so I’ll be able to add some unique items :)

Cofftea said

Huh? Your tea shop isn’t open 365? SAD DAY! …several of them infact…

Indeed! My three year old decided he liked the chocolate chai from there and I drove by for a doctor’s appointment and was quite disappointed to see that they were closed for the season.

You should use something like http://stickybits.com or code something similar, so as it travels around, there is an updated stream, pics, ect.

Sweet! Yes, Jason- what is Steepster’s idea for taking pics? Provide our own camera? Have one provided?

Jason select said

We’re open to suggestions. I think it also depends on how many people and locations too.

That would be so fun! This reminds me . . . I was wondering if we have any sort of tea swap function set up yet on Steepster. I would love to be able to share good discoveries or send teas that are not for me to a good home.

Cofftea said

Not beyond just asking if a person is interested in a swap.

Jason select said

Yea, nothing specifically geared towards tea swaps. But there is private messaging, so you can have conversations and share contact/mailing info with people you want to swap with (a person has to be following you to be able to PM them). You can also check out people’s cupboards to see what they currently have, so that’s a good way to see if they have something you’d like to try.

Cofftea said

I’m hoping teas in cupboards will soon as a “wanna try?” button so we can easily mark those teas we’re willing to share/part w/.

Lori said

Good idea about the wanna try button…

mindala said

Good idea Cofftea. I was hoping for something like that because I’m a little too shy to send someone a message asking for their tea.
