I’m from Texas and new to the tea world. I don’t know anything about it not even about tea types or anything please help this tea virgin on this new adventure. I’m overwhelmed and don’t have a clue where to start.
I ordered some Adagio tea samples to start my journey and a Kyusu pot. Does that sounds right? The only tea I had in my life is chamomile and Roiboss/Chai from boxes.
I hope to learn and have a space to share with all of you :D
sounds like a great start! welcome aboard! hope you have a great time learning and checking out new things.
Hi Kettle, welcome to the wonderful world of tea. Off to a great start, you’ve ordered some tea, bought some teaware, and found Steepster.
Advice – Take it for what it’s worth, all of this is just my humble opinion, but I was a newbie too at one point. Use Steepster, there is a MOUNTAIN of useful information here. Tons of friendly, helpful people here. Read the forum. Check out tasting notes. You can see all the tasting notes from everyone if you click explore (at the top of the screen) and then browse (towards the bottom of the next screen). Read about teas, find some that sound interesting, you will start to see the same user names over and over again, choose to follow the ones that sound like fun, or have similar tastes to yours. Learn about the tea companies, check out the web sites of companies that have teas that you are interested in.
The single best piece of advice I can give is: BUY SAMPLE SIZES – or small quantities – until you learn what you like. You are right it is overwhelming, most people here go through a “I want to try everything” phase – that phase for me led me from about 10 teas in my cupboard to about 100. Trust me, you won’t like every tea you try – that’s ok, you can learn as much from what you don’t like as you can what you do like. If you buy in small quantities you won’t be wasting money on those you don’t like. Your tastes will change as you explore the different genres, you don’t want mountains of roiboos chai, if you’ve moved on to straight blacks.
Have some fun, drink some tea, meet some people, let this community help you through your journey. :))
i echo what dexter says! especially the SAMPLE sizes! Also..don’t get suckered into every sale…trust me there will be more from some company or another, just around the corner. :)
Thank you Dexter and Sil, I will buy some samples I really don’t know with which company to start. I picked Adagio because it was one of the first ones it popped on google, I will definitely use the search engine of the board. I’m excited for my first order to arrived yay tea.
Make sure you Verdant Tea, they have a 5 teas for $5 sampler and include a coupon good for $5 off your first order.
Welcome to Steepster!
Hope you have enough cupboard space for what’s to come ;)
Welcome in! If you have any questions on Chinese pu-erh tea ask away. I have a decent selection and might be able to help.
Welcome to Steepster! Try not to get too carried away in the excitement of discovering new teas. Wanting to try everything at once gets you a cupboard full of 100 teas and an hour wasted each day deciding what to brew first. lol.
