NYC Tea Meet-Up- Sunday, September 29th- Bellocq Teas & Taste of France Festival

Bellocq might not lend itself to doing a swap (if we want to do that again) so maybe we can plan to go somewhere else afterwards. The Park Slope David’s Tea is pretty tiny but there is Tea Lounge and Mamselles Teas & Tarts

Tea Lounge is really comfy. I’ve bever been to Mamselles. :-) Either one sounds great!

Good call Nicole. I think Tea Lounge does look especially comfy and they have food! The only hitch is that its a 45 minute commute down to Tea Lounge on the G train. We can cut that in half if we just split a cab down. Or if anyone is driving, there should be plenty of parking in both spots.

Would anyone be interested in harney? I’ve never gone but I want to! Davids too I’ve only ordered online

I’d be fine with splitting a cab. Or we could try another place in Manhattan. Harney is a bit of a stretch from Brooklyn but I think Physical Graffitea is the first stop after we cross the Brooklyn Bridge.

I wanna come! I quite like Physical Graffitea, but it might be too small depending on how many people come out. Harney is fun but pricey. I’ve never been to Tea Lounge. It sounds intriguing though! Maybe skip Bellocq and go straight to Tea Lounge? Otherwise I’m fine with splitting a cab.

Just found out that I won’t be able to make the meet up :/ We should have another one soon because I have another stash that I need to get rid of, lol

It seems like there is a lot of interest, so we could definitely keep doing them once a month!

Since, we are somewhat on the subject of an October meetup…would there be any interest in this? http://www.tea-whisk.com/Tea-Whisk/ChariT.html

It’s a traditional Japanese Tea Ceremony. It takes place a few times a month in three or four locations one of which is a very traditional tea house set up in a gentleman’s apartment in FlatIron. I really leaning towards that one just to get the full effect. All they ask is a $20 donation and every penny goes toward a Japanese Tsunami Relief Fund. I will inquire about October dates if there is any interest.

That sounds amazing!

That’s a great find! I’d love to do that!

Yay! I found it looking for something else just this morning. I’m so glad everyone is into it. I’ll email them now for dates. Bonus: Once you take this class they start inviting you to various events they have throughout the year that are invite only! Secret Tea Society. lol.

I just got a response. The next Chari-T Tea Ceremony will take place at Harney & Sons SoHo on Friday October 18th at 7:30. Does this work for everyone?

Looks good for me!

Works for me :)

Great. So I was waiting to see if anyone else was interested. I will make a reservation for the three of us for the 18th. Should I start a new post?

I’m down with that! A new post might be a good idea to work up some more people.

I’d like to come to this too!

And Greenteafairy makes four. I will post a new thread.

I know we haven’t decided 100% what to after Bellocq teas just yet, but we also have something else to consder. Nina’s Paris just posted that they will at an event in Bryant Park that wekend I know it’s far from Greenpoint, but would anyone be interested in going to that event afterwards? Bryant Park is great for a picnic and nobody would look twice if we did our tea swap there.

It’s only about 30 minutes (and a subway transfer) from Bellocq to Bryant Park. If that’s the plan, I might just meet y’all at the Park – it’s half an hour and two transit transfers closer to me. Palais des Thés will also be at the exhibit, along with several macaron companies (exhibitor list: http://tasteoffrance.com/exhibit/). Also, cheese! This event looks very exciting…

It does look like a fun event, so I hope a few of us would like to go. Rr

This sounds like the perfect thing to do after Bellocq. It’s going to be a fun Sunday!

Great! Looks like we’re mostly agreed. I’ll update the front page of the thread.

Can we pick a place to meet for people (i.e. me) who will be going straight to the park? How about in front of the left lion at 3pm? Or the corner of 6th and 40th, if that’s easier?

Good idea, Kaylee! The left lion sounds good choice.

Hi Guys,

I’m the operations manager at Bellocq and we are delighted that you have chosen to have a tea meet-up at our shop this Sunday. In case you were unaware, I wanted to let you know that the G Train will be out of service for the next four weekends. The MTA is providing a substitute bus service which makes stops at all the closed stations. If you choose to come by subway, you will still be able to get here and leave, it will just require an extra step of transferring to a bus. Hope to see you Sunday!

Thanks for letting us know, Ravi! I’m still up for going out to Greenpoint if everyone else is. :-)

I’m definitely still up for it.

Bonjour :-)

Just to let you know that our stocks have just been delivered to New York for the Taste of France event, and we’ll be glad to host your meetup for a special discovery session. You’ll be able to try all our teas, but also some our macarons and other delicious pastries… for free!! Just let us know you come from Steepster, relax and take as many sips as you want.
In addition to that, we would have a very exciting sweepstake at this event in Bryant Park, you could win a trip for 2 people to Paris which includes a visit of Versailles, the castle and the garden of the queen from where we get our amazing marmelade, and an exclusive tour of our new concept store.
Hope to see you there!!

On behalf of Nina’s Tea Paris, Laurent.

We are meeting at the left lion at Bryant Park. Are we still meeting at the G stop to walk to Bellocq together?

Kaylee said

Sweet. Are we swapping?

Kaylee said

Also, let’s clarify – it’s the lion on the left when you’re facing the library.

Yes. We are intending on swapping at Bryant park. And thanks for clarifying the lion!

I still vote for meeting at the G and walking over together.

Ok! Most likely we’ll see each other on the G shuttle bus.
