Anyone just IN LOVE with their electric kettle?

Most small appliances today are unfortunately designed for “planned obsolescence” – a short lifespan and zero availability of parts as a way to increase sales without regard for long-term customer satisfaction or “word-of-mouth advertising”. My mother’s Black & Decker toaster oven TO1485B is an example. One of the 2 heating elements died and no parts are available. One more small appliance for the landfill. It’s also not uncommon for many consumer goods to die prematurely or shortly after the warranty period. A look through Amazon customer reviews of many small appliances will sadly provide numerous such comments.

Are any of the “IN LOVE” electric kettles:
1. BPA-free?
2. Currently manufactured in Japan, Germany, or the USA?

Two excellent examples related to tea that are both made in Germany:
- Finum Brewing Baskets http://steepster.com/teas/teaware/29177-finum-brewing-basket
- HBM brand digital weighing sensors (http://www.hbm.com/en/menu/about-us/organizations-associations/?geoip_cn=2): Global market leader in test and measurement and sensor technology including industrial & consumer digital scales such as http://steepster.com/teas/teaware/37731-my-weigh-durascale-d2-660-digital-scale (HBM sensor, scale assembled in China)

Frankly, I’m surprised that these devices don’t have a little timer in them to literally force the appliance to brake the day after the warranty expires. People would just accept that they’re only allowed to have nice things for X amount of time.

Not sure what people you know but I sure as hell wouldn’t…If I spend a bunch of money I usually expect it to last or at least have a nice warranty.

I have a nice Hello Kitty electric kettle ;); what can I say, it was $10 cheaper than similar models, and works just fine. I do love my kettle, but I’d love any kettle! It makes me tea, so what’s not to love?

Me! Me! Me! I have the Krups variable temp, I think it is a D70 or something? We use it all the time and I bought one for my daughter and she loves hers, too.

Is this the Krups variable temp model you mean?

That’s the one! Well, I was right about there being a “D” and a “70” in the model number, just not in that order and not alone! :)

I recently picked one up at “my store,” Costco and I LOVE it. It’s a Hamilton Beach and my life is soo much easier. It wasn’t expensive and it is a simple kettle. It doesn’t have variable temps, but I judge it by the sound. My instincts seem to serve me well.

I judge by the sound too. The sounds my electric kettle make are not as easy to differentiate as in a traditional kettle; but, it does certainly seem to serve me right!
