Almost-free samples for new customers

I recently noticed both verdant and designatea will ship new customers tea samples for next to nothing. Do you know of any other tea companies I could “audition” in this manner? This seems like the perfect way for a tea company to introduce itself, and I’d love to find some new favorites.

If you sign up for Republic of Tea they send you a free teabag and then after that they send one every once in a while, its free from what I recall, basically its a tea bag attached to a catalog. Gonna try Design a tea, got a chai pumpkin black tea and a Strawberry Banana black tea, thanks.

Found this also, haven’t tried it yet.

www.teavivre.com has a free tea tasting activity. Great unflavoured teas.

Fusion Teas used to do samples for reviews, that may still be the case. Theirs are mainly herbals and flavoured but good!

Fusion teas will let you choose I think 5 samples for free in return for reviews on a blog or this site. Their samples are also reasonably priced.

Some companies who offer free samples for reviews do have a policy that you have to have a few reviews under your belt, been on the site for a while, and they often look at the content of your reviews. (Basically wanting to watch out for people who are trying to sink a company with bad reviews and/or seems biased in favor of a particular company.

It’s not free or freeish exactly but Della Terra has Try Me packs which, combined with the nearly constant 25-35% off coupon codes, come out rather reasonable.

And really, now that I think of it, that sort of try me sample thing, whether packs or no (like, dirt cheap sample sizes of nearly everything stocked), lots and lots of the Steepster favorites do. My memory is that’s how I got to survey Persimmon Tree and Golden Moon and maybe Zen and Utopia, among others. Teavivre does samples too. Upton used to be very notable for their dirt cheap sample sizes of eeeeeverything on offer; they’re a little less cheap now but also reasonable.

EDIT: Oh yeah, that Den’s promo is popular here. Last I checked it comes with a coupon code for your next order that pays for (or nearly pays for? it’s been a while) the sample pack.

Checked out Dens, yeah it pays for itself next order(You get the 3 bucks back when you place an order over 15 dollars), gonna try them out, been craving a nice green tea.

I just found out about Yezi Tea. They have free samples for up to 3 teas of your choice. You just have to pay shipping ($2.95 for me). I think it’s only in the US, though. http://www.yezitea.com/pages/free-tea-samples-promotion

This is amazing. You are amazing. Thank you!

Thanks gonna get them, curious as to how big the samples are, enough for a couple cups each you think?

Looks like quality teas.

I have no idea, but I put in an order for them last night, so I’ll update you guys when they arrive!

Thanks, hope its good :-)!

My order placed late on the 10th just arrived today (the 14th) in PA. I got one 5g packet of each of the three teas I requested, as well as a 5g packet of another random sample. Looking forward to trying them, but they sure look like quality teas.

Ooh, when I saw mugger’s comment, I went to check my mail and there it was! Here is a pic of what I got: http://instagram.com/p/eQEoAMMHB1/

Edit: I just realized I ordered White Peony Master Grade Bai Mu Dan but got White Peony High Grade Bai Mu Dan. Oh well.

Jennkay: Can you email us your order number and we’ll send you new sample package. Sorry for the inconvenience!

mugger said

Oh hey ! Yezi Tea got my order wrong too! I ordered three samples and got four ! I hope they send a corrected package. (Wink wink)

On a more serious note, there’s almost no tasting notes for Yezi on steepster… get on it!

Yezi Tea said

mugger: We can add some basic tasting notes and steeping recommendations, but we would rather see customers add their own. We would love to hear how you brew our tea :) As we say on the site: “We encourage you to experiment with the amount of tea you use, water temperature, tea utensils, and infusion times to conjure up your own “Aha!” moment.”

That last comment was for the rest of steepster. :) Jennkay and anyone else who has ordered or will order Yezi tea.

Aye aye, cap’n! I posted one review and Yezi so kindly offered to resend me the correct tea (plus a couple new ones!), so I will be posting more shortly. (Disclaimer: I’m not really a tea expert, but I do my best!)

Verdant’s five teas for 5 dollars has some pretty hefty samples. And it includes five dollars off your next purchase! And all purchases include a free sample, so that’s more like 8 teas for ten dollars split between two purchases when you redeem that coupon code. I’m certainly happy.

I know Muggler mentioned Design a Tea. This is from their website:
“Design a Tea wants you to be satisfied with your custom blend, so we are offering a sample or two to try before you purchase. The cost of shipping is just $1, but receive a $2 credit on your next order! A maximum of two samples will be permitted per person.”

The 1.00 shipping must be just to the US, I tried to do this and it came up with 9.95 shipping, I’m in Canada.

Thanks for posting the link. As a relatively new tea drinker, I’m too overwhelmed by the possibilities right now, but I’ll probably put in an order over the weekend. I’ll let you know how the shipping works out (I’m in the US).

It’s a very small operation run by a guy named Brian. He blends your order after you place it. Your two samples will come in oversized open tea bags1 meant for about 6-8oz of water. They’ll come wrapped in little plastic sleeves attached to a discount coupon in a first-class envelope, hand-addressed to you. Shipping to PA took about two days.

Just a heads up, if you want two more free samples, just indicate what you’d like to sample in the “Additional Information” next time you order any of his blends.

And, for anyone unaware, Adagio offers a similar design-a-blend feature, but I don’t think you can sample it.

I understand that shipping is more expensive to Canada, I wasn’t meaning to criticize, just pointing it out.
I actually ordered the samples and a few others to make the 10.00 shipping worth while.
