health and tea
Yesterday I was supposed to get a fasting blood test. Well, I got up early had a cup of tea and went off for the test. Guess what? I couldn’t have the blood test b/c of the cup of tea! Really? If it was coffee, it would have been okay, but not tea. Dang, shucks, fewy. So, today I went in to the Samari
needle woman, gave all the mosquitos their due and got a huge bruise for my trouble.
Anyway, I’m now having my cup of English Breakfast tea from Trader Joe’s and feeling better.
I’m surprised. When I had my fasting blood test they said tea was fine, as long as it was plain tea and didn’t have any milk or sugar (I also avoided flavored tea just to be safe).
Glad it’s over for you and that you were able to have a nice cup of tea afterwards.
That surprises me. When I had a fasting blood test, they said I could have tea as long as it was plain tea without sugar or milk. Anyway, glad it’s over for you and that you’re enjoying a nice cup of tea now.
I think it depends who is giving the instructions. I had a surgeon tell me once that it is ok to have coffee and tea before going under general aneasthetic because it is just liquid. The problem is that most people, even when you say black coffee only, will still add cream or sugar or something else – the cream could curdle in the stomach during surgery and cause the patient to aspirate. It is too hard to explain, so they just give a blanket no coffee instruction. Not sure if that is the same as what you ran into.
I Think perhaps you are right on the money, when you say it depends on who is giving the instructions. I spoke to a friend about it yesterday who had a blood test right after she had a cup of plain black tea and the said it was okay. Anyway, I know now it’s easier to just forego the tea until it’s over.
