Tea Thermometer at Davidstea accurate?

I was going to buy a variable temp kettle since I needed a new kettle(Well wanted an electric one, always used stove types) and lost my thermometer when I moved, I was going to go with the Hamilton Beach Programmable kettle but as a gift someone just got me this: http://www.walmart.com/ip/Farberware-Electric-Kettle/23422593 and I am pretty much contemplating keeping it since it was a gift and all.

Is this accurate: https://www.davidstea.com/thermometer-and-timer

The one I use to have was rather pricey and accurate but I can’t seem to find it anymore. Nice that the one at Davids has a timer, just wondering if its pretty accurate.

It’s hard to say. I use all sorts of steeping vessels and thus water cools at different temps… but I’ve never burnt my leaves so that’s something :)

Thats good, because the kettle itself seems well made, only a small silicone(Safe right, oh god I am a health nut!) seal on the handle so mainly no plastic…might just get the Thermometer at davids.

I’m the same way! A few of my steeping baskets are part plastic and it makes me uneasy every time :/

Better safe then sorry I always say. I think Silicone is safe(Which by the feel of it, thats what on the water meter inside this one).

We live in a toxic world, best to make it as less toxic as possible.

yup. agreed 100%

Hey I decided to get this, its the only one I have seemed to stumble upon that has no plastic in it besides the top which the water doesn’t touch and is BPA free just in case, I think they stopped making them though so I ordered quickly.

I have a digital thermometer too.
What I’ve found is that for small changes in water temperature it’s impossible (at least for me) to notice the change in taste.
The temperature must be way off to be able to tell the difference, that’s why I don’t use my thermometer much nowadays.

Abstractal,

Yes, I think the DAVIDsTEA thermometer/timer is accurate. The reason I can’t be more certain is I don’t have another thermometer with which to compare it.

However, using this thermometer/timer and brewing per the tea merchant’s recommendations always results in an excellent cup of tea.

Thanks for the link, decided against it and just got another kettle.

You could always test it by putting it in ice water.

I just decided to go with this kettle and return the one I got since it was only a 7 dollar difference. Thanks though for the advice.
