When you're sick or just feeling bad, what teas are the most comforting to you?

Onset of a cold or an upset tummy, ginger tea with lemon and honey is the best thing I know. I also second the Stash White Christmas tea as a good-when-sick cup. To alter my mood, anything with orange peel or vanilla in it works, so most orange-spice blends and, my current favorite, Cream Earl Grey White are the best anti-depressants I’ve found!

Peppermint for sickness, vanilla for comforting the soul.

A gyokuro with fresh shredded ginger, honey, and a spritz of lemon.

I drink that in lieu of cough drops when I’m sick.

If I need to relax, white tea with a few flowers and/or vanilla blended in calms me as well.

I find white tea calming as well. I have a nice jasmine one that feels soft when I drink it, it immediately relaxes me.

Upset Tummy-Winter Tonic Herbal (From a new age shop about an hour from me.) It’s got Chamomile, so alot of times during that time that is all the tea I can drink. Mint Medley by Bigelow sometimes helps…one of the teas I grew up with, so sometimes the comfort food aspect helps me feel alittle better.

Sore Throat/Cold-something really simple and plain tasting. I usually don’t use honey in tea because of the tendency for the honey to take over, but with plainer teas, I love the taste of honey and it helps sooth the throat. A lemony honey herbal is really good.

Depression-Just about any favorite tea, though often find myself turning to my more fruity teas during that time.

I’d like choose Herbal tea, such as chrysanthemum tea. It’s better to keep your tea light when you’re sick.

BTW, please remeber do not take medications with your tea. The tannic acid in the tea can potentially cause problems with your body absorbing any medications you may have to take. There is a saying in China that states, “tea makes medicine fail”, so it is not wise to take your medication while drinking tea.

Thanks for the reminder about taking medication with teas.

Huh, that’s good to know. Usually when I swallow a pill I’m using tea to swallow it with … heh.

Like many others have said. I usually reach for a mint tea or lemon tea when I am not feeling well. Sometimes even just a hot cup of water depending on how upset my tummy is.

I see lots of folks mentioning ginger. I have never tried any teas with ginger and there are times when I drink ginger-ale when I am not feeling well so this sounds like something I should try.

I’m sick right now and I’ve been taking a few different approaches.

I have not been having some of my favourite teas that are more delicate and subtle in flavour simply because my buds are muted and I can neither taste nor smell the subtle beautiful notes in some teas. I have been going two ways with this…

1) drinking teas that are very strong and potent, usually minty or spicy…the benefit is also somewhat medicinal though, something like S’mores from Della Terra was fine, as was Creme Brûlée from Bayswater.

2) drinking teas I’m not too fond of as sip downs…they’re not great when I’m not sick, so I’m not really missing out drinking them while I’m sick.

An exception to the above is Butiki’s With Open Eyes…I can’t taste it as well, but I can still pick up the ginger, and even if I can’t taste it enough, I know it’s got some benefit still.

If it’s a migraine and sinus I’m dealing with, strong black tea works, preferably with ginger or warming spices.

Yogi tea, as someone else stated above. My cure all blend is Egyptian Licorice Mint, it alleviates allergies and colds and sore throats and sore tummies. Lemon ginger is another good one. Also Candy Cane Lane tea from Trader Joes.

For allergies though, there is nothing better than Yogi Egyptian Licorice.

I also second/ third tulsi tea. I had some Tulsi Ginger tea yesterday and while I am not a fan of the taste, mixed with some honey it’s makes me feel great.

Oh my god, I love straight up Egyptian Licorice from Yogi! It is especially useful for when I have any kind of nausea or upset stomach-type problems. I used to combine it with an Irish chai as a sweetener. Man, that stuff is great.

Peppermint for sure. Ginger for sore throat

Having just gotten over a cold, I will say that anything strong flavored is good because the taste buds aren’t as effective. (I was really glad that I had a bunch of reviews already finished so that I wasn’t keeping SororiTea Sisters inactive!)

My taste buds are back in action now, but my throat is still kind of scratchy and I found chamomile is really soothing. I usually am very nose up to chamomile, not my favorite thing, but I was really happy with how much better my throat felt after drinking a cup of chamomile last night.
