Tea Question - from Newbie

I’ve been reading about tea – want to drink green tea often – but read about radiation problems in China and Japan, etc. Thus, not all organics are created equally.

I am not a handy person, so I prefer packets.

Any advice or guidance is highly appreciated.

Also, I am interested in whether there are any recommended detox teas, if they really are worth a darn, etc. – but I suppose that should be another topic.

Right now I am drinking: http://organicindiausa.com/tulsi-tea/

Thanks all!

Welcome!

I’m going to let someone else reflect on your green teas as I am by no means an expert. As for a detox tea, I like Bija’s Deep Cleanse. It’s cheaper than Flora’s mainline detox tea, it tastes decent if you don’t mind a sweet spicy tea and it has ingredients that are traditionally used both for detoxification and for organ support and blood sugar regulation in homeopathic medicine. I find it to be rather gentle but I have found it to be helpful when I feel out of balance and I find the taste comforting. The Ingredients are Cinnamon Bark, Burdock Root, Dandelion root, ginger root, licorice root, fennel seed, stinging nettle leaf, oatstraw herb, yellow dock root.

I don’t know about radiation, but I did hear that green teas from China tend to have less flouride. I doubt anyone would drink enough tea for that to really matter anyway. I think as long as you stick with a reputable seller, you should be able to trust the quality of the teas.

As far as packets, since switching to loose tea I can hardly stand green tea bags (or sachets) with the exception of Den’s tea. The Den’s tea bagged greens are super tasty, I almost wouldn’t know they came from a bag :)

On the bit of reading I did, tea is Japan is produced quite far away from the Fukushima plant. But in saying that, there would still be some radiation that may have contaminated the tea. Crops, especially ground crops (ie. potatoes or root vegetables) that were grown quite close to the plant were contaminated. Due to the half life of radiation, there would not be too much direct contamination of the crops now, but if the ground or water was contaminated that is a different story. The Fukushima plant is still leaking radiation, but I could not tell you if the levels are within acceptable range.

I still purchase green tea from Japan. I just make sure to use reliable and reputable sellers. The seller will be able to provide you with information on any contaminants.
