Tea Swap limitations?

Is there anything stopping you from swapping with others on Steepster besides shipping fees? I ask this because I notice that swaps only happen on forums.

I think the main contact for people who want to swap is through the forums. However, if there is someone you would like to specifically swap with, many swaps are done through private messaging (PM).

I’d agree with Lala on that one. However, if i’m following someone and they post about a tea that I would really like to try, i will occasionally ask if they’d be willing to send some my way in exchange for something from my cupboard.

For me, it’s allergies. A severe peanut allergy makes me pretty paranoid about lots of foods, even tea, just due to the possibility of contamination. If I eat any peanut product I need my epipen, so I am a bit leery of things such as swaps just due to the potential of contamination. I know that people would take great care to prevent contamination, but it’s more just a paranoid me thing :) however, I might try swapping in the future once I try out other nuts to make sure I am only allergic to peanuts, and not hazelnuts or walnuts, because those are much more prevalent in teas than peanuts, so I’d rather be safe than sorry. That’s pretty much the only thing preventing me though!

I haven’t been swapping these days as I have so much tea and I don’t need more tea in return lol! Sometime I’d like to try selling a mystery box or cheap sampler. Or maybe just swap for tea ware instead (though shipping/etc could be annoying to set up fairly).

Though, with the last USPS international shipping fee increase, it seems too costly to send anything out of the US for me, especially when I could buy the tea myself off the tea company for less shipping (ie, DavidsTea)
