With more water, how much more time?

Does this have to do with my timolino? Probably. Also, it’s 16 oz whereas my other…three are 12, and so I had to adjust the amount of leaf I used this morning. I used more leaf, but the same amount of steep time (seven minutes, david’s tea’s Sugar and Spice). But the tea tastes thin and watery, and i’m wondering if it was that I didn’t let it steep longer. But would it seriously need more than seven minutes? The instructions call for 4-7 mins, but I’m assuming that’s just for a regular cup?
For those of you who use large travel mugs, do you increase steep time to get more flavor? or just more leaf? or both?
This is so annoying. Thanks for your replies!

My general rule is the steeping time never changes. So if you are using more water you use more tea. If you let it steep for too long, no mater how much water there is, it may become bitter or just change the flavour profile. I look at it like if you use 1tsp for 6oz, then you use 2tsp for 12oz, etc.

Thanks for your reply. I’m inclined to agree with you, because I thought that the additional leaf would account for the extra water, but my tea still tastes rather thin. Still encredibly enjoyable though, but maybe I didn’t add enough cream LOL.

One other thing to consider is the type of vessel you are drinking from. Any liquid will taste a bit different if drinking from porcelain or plastic or metal, etc. It just might be how the tea tastes in the timolino.

It’s true. But I’ve had this tea in the timolino before, so it’s kind of odd that it’s different now. Oh well, I’ll keep experimenting LOL.

I’ve got Sugar and Spice in my 16 oz timolino today too! I used extra leaf and let it brew for the long end of the suggested time, but didn’t oversteep. The first few times I tried, I was getting bitter tea, so I’ve been really careful on brew time lately.

Haha Katiek we’re tea twins today!
Ok, so you just used more leaf but not a longer steep time? Did you use the brewing basket? or did you scoop the leaves into a teabag? How much leaf do you typically use for 16 oz?
