How much DID you spend on tea in 2014?

Goal:
My goal is to keep the tea tab at $200.00. With lots of tea gifts from Christmas and likely more for my birthday, I believe this would be a realistic amount for me to spend out of my own pocket.

Prediction:
While I will work hard to keep within my goal, I know I will probably spend closer to $300.00 on tea in 2014.

Hmmm. I am hoping for about one order a month this year (mostly because I could probably live off of stash for about 2 years). I hope to keep it to the $40-$60 range per month. So $480-720ish? Written like that it sounds like too much for me. I still have some tea in transit that I bought at the end of December, so it does not count! ;)

Goal: $480 or less

So far:
Jan.- a large Timolino from David’s Boxing Day Sale with shipping was about $25. (Not actually sure I will really count this as I spent Christmas money and it is not technically tea….)

Running Total: $25

I’m afraid to extrapolate from what I’ve spent so far—in only twenty days!

Just this morning (day 20, ahem), I placed a $60 order at Tealuxe.

They are having a 20% off sale, by the way… in case anyone’s looking for enablement!

My kind of spending… :)

Oh, that’s a lot of Taiwan Tea Crafts! :D

Most of the Taiwan Tea Crafts order was a teapot, so I may still have to reorder from them soon…

Eek! I’m afraid to do this because I’m worried I’ll be shocked by what I find.

But, here goes!

Prediction: $750

Actual:
January:
Teavana: $7.50
DAVIDsTEA: $15.00
Shadowfall Stash Sale: $18.50
Amoda: $12.00
RiversTea: $28.60
Herbal Infusions: $27.00
Adagio: $126

February:
Amoda: $12.00
Running Total: $246.60

How Do I Feel About This?: That’s more than I realized, but I’m making up for when I was unemployed, and the Adagio order was a reward. I don’t expect to buy more this month, and spend no more than $30 in Feb.

Also, this thread should be hot linked to the hiatus thread to keep us honest/motivated while on hiatus!!!

haha we just need to do more split orders – spend less money, get more kinds of tea :)

TeaLady441 said

Yes! Also on the spring VariaTEA will be back and we’ll have more options for splitting/swappjng!

I’ve budgeted $40/month (yikes!), and have spent some so far.

I will be buying tea with my birthday money, but that won’t count towards this goal as it will be a gift. :)

January TOTAL: $132
$20 – Teavana, for two iced tea jugs and 2 oz of a tea
$10 – Steam tea house, replenishing teas I ran out of
$5.99 – Winners. I got sucked into buying some cheap matcha. It’ll be nice for lemonade!
$12 – Amoda. I totally forgot about this!
$40 – 52Teas, thanks to VariaTEA egging me on. :)
Jan Total $88

MissB just included me on an order for TeaGschwender, so there’s another $40-45 gone. :)
Jan 31 – $132. Umm. On the up side, I rarely visit cafes or Sbux anymore, and I’m not buying coffee that’s $15+/lb.

February TOTAL: $38
$30 – Butiki. It’s a group order so I’ll still need to pay for shipping, but… oh well.
$8 – Tea bags at Steam

March TOTAL: $87 (ACK!)
$12 – Tea Time, local shop
$25 – DavidsTea, but it was a mug, not tea! So I’m not counting it in my total. :)
$45 – Cornelia Bean with VariaTEA
$15 – Red Leaf (Matcha!!) thanks to VariaTEA mentioning the sale. :D
$15 – Shipping of shared orders…

April TOTAL: $11
$10.65 – SOKO (local), included some Turkish Delight. Mmm…

May
$?$ – Lupicia – Shipping from Sil, as well.

$480/year, $212 remaining.

OMGsrsly said

I bought more tea! $30 at Butiki, plus I’ll need to pay for shipping from the enabler’s place to mine. :)

Total: $162.

OMGsrsly said

February:
$8 – for tea bags, so it’s easier to drink tea on the go
Tea for other people that came out of my “gifts” budget.
$40+ – for MissB, when we finally meet up and I get my TeaG order! That might end up being March, though. :D

Still waiting for 52Teas AND Butiki, because the people who are receiving the orders for me are super busy.

Sil select said

Aaah you made a teaG order?!?

OMGsrsly said

MissB “forgot” to hit submit on her order and reached out to me. :) So I added on. Now that she’s back, I should ping her to pick up my tea! (Mmm, 100g O’Connor’s Cream! I’m gonna have to get more whisk(e)y.) And look, I’d already included it in January’s total. Muahahaha. Totally under budget for Feb. :)

Sil select said

I think I want to order from them again….though I wish you could get smaller sizes….so maybe just need to go backtrack o Chicago again lol

TeaLady441 said

Sil – I just tried a few teas from there. I may be interested in splitting something… eventually.

Sil select said

Cavo – “eventually” always works for me :)

I’ll add them to my one-day list :P

If I keep my budget to $50/month or less, prediction – $500 – $600
so far
Verdant BOMC: $22
Herbal Infusions: $25

For a total of $47 this month. So no more tea this month haha :D
It will be interesting to look at this in a year..

Yeah what I pay is what I include…so if shipping went in, it counts :) my budgetwa s in Canadian, though of course 90% of my purchases are in usd bah!

One issue I have is my phobia of paying for shipping, which leads me to order more than I might otherwise have. My Tealux order earlier today was “coincidentally” just over $60… Of course, when there are shipping specials (a lower threshold), then I sometimes end up placing multiple orders!

I do not believe that I have surpassed Cavocorax this month… yet … or have I? Probably depends on whether my late December orders should count as January… lol

I also have to look out for shipping too as it is US or Canada to Europe which adds cost, and when there is free the amount is such that I would be above the tax/duty/customs free treshhold of 22 euro so I only order small. Ordering from from another EU country is shipping cost amounts of euro 13 ,10 ,11 , 9.50 or 8.50 etc in comparing to overseas mail even more costly.
“Januari”
VerdantTea USD 35.75 shipping 8.50( was usd 10 teacup and 17.75 teas)
Tealux.ca CAD 41.35 shipping CAD 10.99 is a total in USD 37.60

Januari

VerdantTea 35.75
Tealux.ca 37.61
total this month of USD 73.36

Prediction not sure on how much money as I just started on tea and I have more hobbies I spend money on.
