Grocery vs Tea spending habits

Writing my grocery shopping list I got thinking about grocery shopping vs tea shopping spending. When I used only teabags it was 3 boxes weekly approx 1/13 of groceries.

I never thought to compare the two, but I do know I spend a lot more now than I did when I was only drinking bagged tea. Back then I could get away with buying 100 Twinings Earl Grey bags from World Market for only $10 and it would last me about a month with two people drinking them.

I spend about $200 per month on food for my family of three. It breaks down to 1/8 spent on pantry staples like flour and sugar, 1/8 spent on organic milk and cheese for my toddler, 1/4 on meat, and the other 1/2 is spent on fresh fruits and veggies. I spend about $50 per month on tea, which isn’t included in my grocery budget because I consider it my treat to myself. It’s interesting to see that I spend what is equivalent to 1/4 of my grocery budget on tea. It’s funny what you realize once you sit down and write things out.
