Help with first Teavivre order

I’m placing my first Teavivre order next week and I’m having some trouble deciding what to get (so many choices!!) I would be really grateful if anyone here could provide any recommendations.

Unflavored blacks are my favorite, and bonus points if they have a naturally sweet, chocolatey/sugary taste to them (kind of like Butiki’s Mi Xian and Taiwanese Wild Mountain Black and Justea and Wanja Tea’s Kenyan blacks). I’ve also been experimenting with Oolongs lately and even though I have yet to find one that I really like, I’d definitely be open to buying few samples.

Thanks! :)

I would suggest Teavivre’s sample packs. For the black tea sampler you get two small samples each of 5 different black teas (I think anyway). They also have other sampler packs as well. That is how I first started with Teavivre, that way I knew if I would like their teas, etc.

I would also recommend the Dian Hong, Bailin gongfu, golden monkey, for blacks. Teavivre also has a variety of different grades of keemun, which are all good in my opinion too.

I am definitely impressed with Teavivre’s tea quality, prices and their customer service. The shipping can be a bit slow but it is cheap.

It’s hard to go wrong with Teavivre’s blacks. I’d agree with Lala that the sample packs are a good way to go. In addition to her recommendations, I’m a big fan of their keemuns. Keemun #1 is a good value for everyday drinking, but I like them all.

You might also go to the Steepster tea page and select Teavivre black. Then read the reviews for things that appeal to you. That’s what I did for my first order.

The sample packs are how I learnt to branch out and find what I liked and what I didn’t like.

As a rough guide the black sample pack contains:
Golden Monkey Black Tea (sweet and malty)
Premium Keemun Hao Ya Black Tea (rich and floral)
Fengqing Dragon Pearl Black Tea (sweet enough to be chocolatey and mild)
Bailin Gongfu Black Tea (rich with some smoke)
Lapsang Souchong Smoky Black Tea (very smoky)

I think you would do well with the Fengqing Dragon Pearl Black Tea but not sure about the others, always worth a try though :)

As for Oolong again the sample packs have a nice selection, I would recommend the Taiwan or the Min-Yue set to start with. I see it as working at the bottom of the mountain of Oolong before climbing towards the high mountain teas :)

Everything I’ve had from Teavivre has been great so I’m sure whatever you decide to try you will find something you like.

I agree, all of the Teavivre blacks have been great teas! The teas i reorder regularly are the Golden Monkey, the Bailin Gongfu, Organic Keemun, and the dragon pearls.

Wow, thanks so much! I’m definitely ordering a black tea sampler pack and maybe an Oolong sampler if my budget still lets me. So excited now :D

Teavivre also has a free tasting activity, there should be a link on their home page. There are a limited number of spots per month, but they send you, for FREE, a few different samples of teas to try.

I am a big fan of the Premium Keemun Hao Ya for its rich sweetness. I got 100g of that and the “Special Selection” black sample pack in the only order I’ve placed with Teavivre so far. Of the samples I liked all but the Nonpareil Yunnan Dian Hong, which seemed to fall flat compared to the rest.
