Thanks! I’m worried by the reviewers who say it doesn’t get hot enough, since I’m hoping to heat and froth simultaneously, but still—it really is cheaper.

Ahh decisions.

Thanks, all of you, for your feedback.

Check out this detailed video review for a similar Capresso auto frother: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6RiUHg99134

For your purposes, I think this may be a good frother. Handheld frothers work well but require more control and maneuvering to properly froth milk.

Thanks! It’s actually the froth pro (that you linked to) that seems to be getting the most positive reviews (somehow, the later model isn’t as well-received)

I don’t know if this is blind-friendly, but I use the “Mason Jar Method” for frothing milk. Cost me…friendship to get the Mason jar, and then the cost of milk and electricity to run a microwave.

The method:
Put milk of your liking (cow, chocolate, goat, soy, almond, etc etc etc) of the amount that you’d like into a Mason jar. I use the 500 ml size and fill it roughly half-way. Screw on the lid tightly, and shake the crap out of it. Shake shake shake shake thou cannot shaketh no more. Usually I call it quits when I can’t actually hear the milk inside anymore and feels like a Mason jar of foam.
Unscrew the lid, take off the ring and the seal cap. Put jar in microwave.
Nuke on “high” for 15-30 seconds, depending on amount of milk and how hot you want it. Remember, the shaking warms it up, too. Microwaving the milk “sets” the bubbles so they won’t collapse unless very small (that stuff turns back into steamed milk).
Dump into tea/coffee as you usually would (either the “spoon carefully on the rim of the jar to hold back the bubbles, then scooping on top” or, my method of choice, the “F that noise, just dump it in”). Drink. Enjoy. Reminisce. Smile, because you didn’t pay $80 for a milk frother. Laugh maniacally. Pet the cat.
