Better Than Ming Qian – The She Qian Tea

Have you heard She Qian Tea?

Ming Qian tea is a kind of high grade green tea that we are familiar with. It is harvested before Qing Ming festival. While if the fresh leaves are harvested earlier, we can call the tea as She Qian tea.

What is She Qian Tea? To understand the name She Qian, we need to see the components separately. She is 社 (shè) which refers to the She Ri festival, and Qian is 前 (qián), same meaning as the word before. So She Qian tea means the tea harvested before She Ri festival.

Definition of She Ri: She Ri is an ancient Chinese festival for sacrificing the Tu Shen god. It is about 41 to 50 days after the first solar term, the Begining of Spring. Thus approximately, She Ri festival is around the time of Spring Equinox.

Therefore, the teas harvested between Beginning of Spring and Spring Equinox are called as She Qian tea.
