Design a Tea

Anyone ever try out this?

http://www.designatea.com/index.php

It sounds fun but I couldn’t find out what actual tea was used for the base.

This is a ton of fun. I’ve ordered from them twice. You can do whatever you want. Choose whatever base, then add your choice of flavors and herbs/spices. If you can’t get the options you want to work in the drop down menus, just add more info into the comments.
Brian is FANTASTIC, funny, super nice guy. Just email him if you have any questions. brian(at)designatea.com

That page has more info on the different bases they carry, and more options. They also have custom blends that they carry.

I’ve been happy with my orders. It’s hard to tell though if you don’t like a tea because I MADE BAD CHOICES, or you don’t like their flavors.
It’s cheap, it’s fun – I’d give it a try, but like I said just email him any questions….
I have some of them in my cupboard if you would like to take a look at some of the OUT THERE possibilities….

Mmmmm Chocolate Genmaicha. Sounds interesting. How was it? I didn’t see genmaicha as a base only black, green, oolong or rooibos.

LOL I haven’t tried it. If you click on the top link I posted, it shows all the bases available. There are lots of options other than black, green, oolong, or rooibos.
I really liked Pomegranate Zabagilone White with Sarsaparilla root and Banana Rum Pecan Keemun. But then I did just pear pear green at one point and it awesome TONS of pear.

I just see the four bases in the drop down, that’s all I saw when I just ordered too.

From their home page, click on Teas and Products – it’s right above the Step 1 box…

I"m wondering if we are at the same site. I see this at http://www.designatea.com/designatea.php:

But I don’t get anything other than categories if I just click on Teas and Products, I have to then click on Design a Tea.

Design a Tea
It’s time to order the best tea you’ve ever tasted. Why? Because you choose the flavors! The concept is simple, choose a base and one or two flavors to blend your own unique tasting tea. Top it off with a personalized name and brag to your friends about your gourmet style or give it away as a gift. Not sure what flavors to mix? Try our samples!
1. Choose a base:
Black tea : a rich blend of black teas from Sri Lanka
Oolong : a middle of the road tea which may help in weight loss
Green : high in antioxidants that strengthen the immune system
Rooibos : antioxidant rich caffeine free, great before bed

Edit – I found the other options under “Other teas and herbs” – wonder why they aren’t part of the wizard to begin with?

Sorry yes, Teas and Products and then Other teas and herbs…
I think because there is different pricing for the different “premium” bases… Dunno. Like I said, just email Brian, he is AWESOME and will do pretty much anything you want. If they have the base and the flavor, they will do it. I did 3 flavors instead of two – I added stuff, changed stuff – my last order I typed almost a whole page in special instructions – I got an email confirming a couple of things and received exactly what I wanted. Excellent customer service.

I found it! I didn’t see that at first either Marzipan.
Holy smokes! The possibilities are endless! I really like the idea of adding herbs to the mixture too. We need a company like this in Canada.
Dexter3657, I sure hope you try that Chocolate genmatcha soon. I’m really curious. The other ones you mentioned sound great too. So many choices….

They still have cheap samples to try out their teas, 5 samples for $5, if you are curious its worth giving a shot!

I tried out the samples myself, did a review http://oolongowl.com/design-a-tea-sample-review/ The bases tasted fine, very dependent on what flavors you choose.

Some of their descriptions are cracking me up. I wish they had reviews here (Looking at you Happy Zombie!)

Thanks everyone. I decided to go ahead with it. It’s only $5.00! I ordered:

Strawberry Pecan Green
Pear Vanilla oolong
Mango vanilla green

And then I decided to go a bit out there (just for fun) and ordered:

Blackcurrant hazelnut green
Raspberry chestnut oolong

The blackcurrant one is really weird , I know. I just can’t find a good blackcurrant in the green and really don’t know what would be good for a second flavor.

I think raspberry chestnut oolong will be good. If you wanted blackcurrant green – you could have opted for JUST blackcurrant – but where’s the fun in that. I agree when in doubt add a nut….

I suppose I could have done that (or doubled up like you did with the pear). I’ll just see how it tastes. You never know. It might be the best one out of the bunch.

I ordered too.
Samples of:
Amaretto orange black
Caramel vanilla black
Peach mango oolong
Pear spice black
Pineapple orange oolong

Plus these signature blends:
Ice Wine
Marzipan Sunset
Angry Pumpkin

Those choices look interesting. I look forward to hearing how they taste.

Design a Tea is located in my neck of the woods. I met them at a craft show last fall. Very nice people. I wish they had a tea house, but alas no physical location even for shopping.
