Verdant tea

So I just found out that verdant tea exists. And they have a tea room here in Minneapolis! I’m planning on checking it out tomorrow. However, I’ve never had any of their teas. Any recommendations (please!) ?

Their Laoshan green is an all-time favorite. Laoshan black is a great one too if you like more “fragrant” teas, has a bit of chocolate to it!

Thank you, Mikumofu! I always love hearing from tea lovers who’ve fallen for the He Family’s Laoshan Teas. If you’re ever near the Twin Cities, we’d love to see you at the tea house. :)

Golden Fleece, Laoshan Black

Thank you MzPriss! Always great suggestions :) Alas – Golden Fleece is sold out at the tea house as well as online (it went so fast!). We’re going to do all we can to bring in the 2014 Spring harvest.

yeah, I contributed to the sold out problem. I bought a LOT of it and I have zero regrets. I need to write a note on it – I LOVE that tea.

Haha! :) You were absolutely not alone in that – every time we talk to Mr. He, he says he still can’t believe how popular his tea has become! It’s inspiring to see innovation and experimentation in new teas and new regions being supported with so much enthusiasm, especially because it means at the end of the day, we all get to drink even more fantastic tea

Great tea and great people. I am confident you will enjoy your visit.

Thank you for your kind words and support, mrmopar. If you’re ever in the Twin Cities, I’d love to sit down and share tea with you.

I would be honored for that chance and the same would apply to you if you ever visit my way.

I live in MN too! Their new spot is awesome! Check out their Tasting room section in the website and then Events. They have fun tastings every week!

Thanks, darby!! It sounds like we really need to have an official Steepster tasting one of these days. :)

Hey darby – are you in town Monday afternoon? David’s going to be holding a special tasting at 3pm on Monday at the big table of all of our new Spring arrivals, because… XD Mrs. Li’s Dragonwell just arrived at the tea house!!

I hope you get a chance to come!

Oh! I hope so! I have to work the WILD game but they don’t have a start time yet.

I hope you get to come to the tasting this afternoon! Any word yet? We’d love to see you.

Thanks everyone! I will definitely be checking out the Laoshan Black. “Bit of chocolate” are the magic words, haha. darby, I wanted to go to the tasting event tonight, but my friends want to go earlier in the day. I guess I’ll just have to make another trip some time, oh darn :)

Sorry we missed you, mj1851! I hope you get to come in soon and try Laoshan Black – though to be honest, the tea house is sold out of Laoshan Black too! We all can’t wait until the He Family finishes their Spring harvest in Laoshan.

You can still find Laoshan Black with a few of our wholesale clients in the Twin Cities. The Seward Coop sells Laoshan Black tea in their bulk section – the Wedge may have a small supply left as well. Surdyk’s Wine & Cheese Shop in Northeast has tins of Laoshan Black for sale in their deli, too!

You never know – you may have already enjoyed our teas at one of your favorite restaurants and coffee shops in the Twin Cities! You can check out everyone who serves and sells our tea here:

Surdyk’s in Northeast sells your tea?!?! That is blocks from my apartment! I will definitely have to pick some up there. I’ve also seriously enjoyed my tea at Spyhouse and Birchwood… I bet it was Verdant.

They sure do! They sell tins of our loose leaf tea, and also serve our teas to-go at their deli. We’re working on getting ready-to-drink chai and our kombucha bottled up for the deli, too – one project at a time :)

Spyhouse is wonderful – they were one of the very first people to start carrying our chai: if you’ve had a chai at any Spyhouse in the last two years, than you’ve been enjoying Laoshan Black tea – it’s our “secret” ingredient, the perfect base of our Classic Chai.

Birchwood Cafe – we love them all so much!! Just a few weeks ago, we partnered with them on a breakfast pop-up while they’re closed for construction – basically, they took over the tea house every morning, and together we created a menu all-inspired by rustic Northern Chinese breakfast and streetfood. Though the pop-up is over, we’ve taken over the project and are expanding it with fun items, hours and offerings. When Birchood re-opens (soon!), we’ll be helping them out with chai, tea and kombucha-on-tap!
Chef Marshall and Tracy Singleton are some of the most fantastic people working in food here – it’s been an honor to work so closely with them over the past year, to learn from them, become friends, and offer all the support we can during their expansion project.

We had to reschedule our trip to because my friend’s sister went into labor. So, if there are any more recommendations, keep them coming :-)

Oh, wow – sounds like congratulations are in order!!

Yep, my friend has a brand new nephew :-). Being an aunt is so fun! I’m in DC this weekend and Pittsburgh the next, but I REALLY want to check out your tea house the following weekend. I hope to see you there!

when my husband came home from work today, we finished off my bag of laoshan black chocolate genmaicha while catching up with how our lives are going, real afternoon tea break stuff, and it was glorious. thank you for all you do. :D

That sounds so wonderful!! David and I are were just taking time this evening to enjoy tea with the tea kitties – it’s a real blessing to have tea in our lives, and there are few things better than getting to share our friends’ teas with new friends around the world. None of it would be possible without tea lovers like you

@Lily,Out of curiousity will Laoshan Genmaicha be making a reappearance anytime soon? I had wanted to get some with my 8 Treasures Yabao order (Which I had wanted to do weeks ago but stuff came up.) Is there anyway to hold a 1oz bag of 8 Treasures for me till the Laoshan Genmaicha is available…if possible. I also plan on getting at least 2-5 samples as well.

Hi Lynxiebrat – Laoshan Genmaicha will be returning as soon as the Spring harvest of Laoshan Green tea arrives. If the weather holds and Laoshan doesn’t have late snow like they did last year (and like we’re having here in MN!), picking will happen around May10-11th, and arrive here end of May.

We’re setting aside an ounce of Eight Treasures (Spring!) Yabao for you now! If Eight Treasures happens to sell out online before Laoshan Green arrives to reblend Laoshan Genmaicha, just contact us directly at [email protected], and we’ll make sure you get the tea we’ve set aside for you along with the rest of your order :)

I’ve been wanting to try them. What happened to the sample packs?

Hi Lariel! Our collection is a little smaller than usual right now as we wait for the Spring harvests to start arriving. We switched up the sample packs for the moment and replaced them with sample options on almost all of our teas.

On any tea product page, just make sure to choose the “sample” option. You can then add as many samples as you like to you cart, and create your own sample pack a la carte.

We also always include an extra sample with every order. If there’s something you’re really hoping to receive, you can always write to us at [email protected] after you’ve made your order, and we’ll try our best to include it!

I was really wanting to try the Laoshan black. Could you please inform me when it is in stock again? And the Laoshan roasted oolong.

Of course! I will be sure to update the thread here as soon as we can open pre-orders for Mr. He’s Laoshan Black. So far, it looks like the main Spring picking will happen around May 10th (depending on how cooperative the weather stays!) – we’ll air ship it as soon as we can, which means it should be here by the end of May!

Laoshan Genmaicha is really good, so is 8 Treasures Yabao.

Thank you, Lynxiebrat! On a rainy Minnesota day like today, Laoshan Genmaicha is just the ticket. We were just blending up more Eight Treasures Yabao this afternoon, too – always makes the blending station smell so lovely!

Howdy there, neighbor :)

We would love to see you any time (if you haven’t already been by to visit us!) Folks have been making great recommendations here in the thread. Since opening our tasting room, we’ve also become well-known for our chai (Minnesota Monthly named it one of the best drinks of 2013!) and for our on-tap Kombucha.

Have you been to our Minneapolis website? You can get the full story on our tea house specials, food menu, driving directions, events and more:
http://minneapolis.verdanttea.com/

If you’re looking for a place to start, we always have at least two sample pots going of recommended teas based on the weather or our newest arrivals. Otherwise, ask anyone working behind the counter for their recommendation! ALL of our amazing staff members are tea lovers (as well as actors, musicians, yogis, tango dancers, artists and more!), and they’ve always got a good recommendation to suit your mood.

I hope we see you soon! We’ll also be at the Minneapolis Yoga Conference this Friday, hosting an Eat for Equity event this Saturday night AND at the Heavy Table’s North Coast Nosh on May 3rd. So if we don’t see you at the tea house in Seward, we’ll probably see you around town!

Best,
Lily Duckler
