Teas from India!

One of my best friends is from India and he will be visiting his family (near Mumbai) in May. He has offered to bring me back some teas! Does anyone have suggestions of what kinds of teas I should ask for?

I read that you love black teas which is good news as India have some amazing natural blacks.

Darjeeling – Comes in 1st flush, 2nd flush and Autumn flush. Flavour depends on which flush you have but on average they tend to be muscatel, floral and of medium strength.

Assam – A strong black tea that is considered spicy, I think it’s because it’s a little dry and has a natural but light cinnamon-esque flavour. Very full bodied and great for morning tea.

Chai Tea – A black based blend consisting of herbs and spices. Most families have unique recipes so this can vary dramatically but on average they have ingredients such as: ginger, cardamom, cinnamon and clove.

Those are basic types, I would suggest starting with those. Your friend should be able to source those easily. :)

Also, Nilgiri!

Thanks KittyLovesTea! I do love darjeeling, so I will definitely ask for that. I also love chai- that’s happening!

Butiki teas, I’ve never heard of Nilgiri. Can you tell me more? P.S. I’ve never tried any Butiki teas and I just ordered 4 teas and 2 samples from you. I can’t wait for them to arrive!

Darjeeling & Assam regions are north east, while Nilgiri is south. Nilgiri tea tends to be a little more mellow than Darjeeling and Assam. There are other areas as well, but those are the key 3 areas. We sell 4 straight teas from the Nilgiri area. Organic Kundaly (black), Organic Korakundah (green), Korakundah Decaf (black), and Nilgiri Frost (Oolong). Also, our Raspberry Truffle uses the Kundaly and the Maple Pecan Oolong uses the Nilgiri Frost Oolong tea.

Thank you for ordering from us! :) If you would like, send me a PM with your name and we can add a few Nilgiri tea samples for you to try.

I just came back from Mumbai! Have him buy up! 250g for amazing tea was 50 rupees, equal to like 80 cents. I recommend Tea Centre (it’s near the Churchgate train stop) for stocking up, though it’s a little more pricy, but no compared to what we pay online! Everything was pretty fresh (It was packed within a month). I read Cha Bar was suppose to be good for buying teas, but I didn’t have time to get there. I really loved the green tea I bought from India, underrated and fresh. You really want to know what I did? I packed a smaller suitcase into my bigger suitcase dedicated to all the tea I bought (though I went down to Munnar, didn’t just stay in Mumbai).
