Coffee filters and Tea

Does anyone use coffee filters for their tea? How do you do it?

I have not tried it but if I did, I would just stuff the filter in a cup, add leaves, water and steep.

For most teas though, if lacking a strainer I would use a saucer to hold back the leaves. Its easy to do. Any remaining particles are drinkable.

The problem with the saucer thing is I drink a lot of rooibos tea so the leaves are super small.

you could also try t-sack. Its pretty much a big fill iut yourself t bag. I would think that wouls work quite well.

Yes, I’ve tried those but I ran out so I’m trying to be resourceful with the coffee filters we have in the house. Plus coffee filters only cost $1, much cheaper _

If you have the time to fiddle with it, maybe try placing the tea in the middle and then tying it up so the tea sits in a little ball in the middle and the excess paper flares like a flower? depending on the type of filter and size of course.

I think the easiest way would probably to make your tea, and filter it through one of those single cup drip coffee things- but that requires extra equipment.

If the cup is deep enough and the filter is big enough you could fold it over the lip of the mug (like placing the bag in the garbage can so it doesn’t fall completely in) and brew that way- then take it out when you’re ready.

So far I’ve just been putting the leaves in the center and twisting up the excess paper. It’s worked so far.

Seems reasonable, tea bags and coffee filters I imagine are very close materials.

That said, you might wanna invest in an infuser? They are not too expensive and you’ll never run out. A bit more up-front cost but it’ll pay for itself in tea bags / filters in a short time.

A lot easier to use than fiddling with filters, put it’s what works for you.

Oh I have infusers, I’m just being lazy. lol. I just got a traveling tea box so I’m trying like 5 different teas a day and its a pain to have to clean out the filter every minute so this is just a temporary thing :P

I’ve filtered spring water with debris through coffee filters (and paper towel but that was messier). It works but for ME is too frustrating to be economical. If you have a very fine sieve you’d have better luck with pouring through that, even with rooibos. Another option would be cheesecloth. Reusable, at least! :)
