Blog Tea Picture Advice

Fellow bloggers, I need advice. In the past I have generally used the tea image from the tea provider. I know little about photography but finally have a point and shoot that will do close ups. It is a simple 16 Mpxl camera. I am pretty sure that is far too high resolution to load properly – at least with my internet. I also know blogger auto resizes the picture display though the full size image remains in storage. So what Mpxl setting loads fairly quickly, doesn’t hog storage space, and can still be clicked to reveal a bigger image? Or maybe I should be thinking, if I use a high setting on the camera and resize with photo software what should I use?

If you never care about ever printing your pictures or editing them much, I’d go down to the smaller sizes like 640×480 (might be too small for your blog, double check) or 1600×1200 image size, that should be under 1MB each picture, shot in JPEG. My regular old 7.1 digital camera can set those dimensions in the settings, though my DSLR won’t go down lower than 3000.

Or you could resize the photo in Photoshop or GIMP, though setting in the camera is faster. Though, editing the size after you can keep the higher quality original copy.

However, even making your photos smaller you’ll run out of room eventually. You can also try putting your pics on another site like Flickr/imgur and insert into your blog. I blogged with wordpress.com for awhile and they had the option to purchase more space. But, I found it cheaper to just get my own host and move to wordpress.org, with that, I have unlimited space. That way you get way more control of your blog, content and ads.

Thanks that was very helpful. I never thought to check my storage space. I just did and learned I have only used 0.22% since 2011. I believe I have used most of that just recently with a different blog under my name. I uploaded bigger pictures on that one. Apparently with my tea blog the images have almost all been under 800 X 800. Blogger/Picaso doesn’t count those against you. That’s good to know. So from here out all pictures will be kept below this limit! Thanks again.

Wow, you got lots of room then! I ran up 60% of my space used in 6 months, but I got a picture intensive tea blog.
