Umiteasets?

So in my ever-expanding search for tea trays, I came across a site called umitesets, at http://www.umiteasets.com/. I believe it ships out of China, which makes it similar to Teavivre, a site I’ve seen recommended here in the past. The thing is the prices are considerably less. I do know that the free shipping minimum on umi is high but some of the sets seem remarkably nice and they have a large amount of yixing teapots at what seem to be an abnormally low prices, even with shipping. I’m aware that they don’t really list the potter or any actual information (which may at least partially account for the prices), but I was wondering if anyone has had any experience with the site and could comment on the quality of the products?

Thanks in advance!

I don’t know anything about them, but they do take Paypal, and Paypal will refund your money. The site does have some unique items. If I were ordering, I would build trust via buying a low priced item, use Paypal and see how it goes.

Just be aware that Paypal makes you responsible for shipping the item(s) back to China, so you’ll likely lose some money if the transaction goes bad, as it did for me.

If you do order from them, I would love to know what the experience is like. I am really eyeing some of those gongfu sets…

Lucitea that’s exactly what I was worried about… thing is, with shipping included the base yixing set is the same price as the one on Teavivre, which I know has had good feedback on steepster in the past, so that made me wonder if the rest is actually of half-decent quality as well. I might make a purchase from them in 2-3 months though (need to get some other accessories first, and it’s just more affordable from zentealife), and I’ll of course report my experiences here if/when I do get a tea set from umiteasets.

Cwyn thanks for the reminder about paypal, I’ll be sure to pay through that if/when I decide to purchase from them.

I love a little red teapot there that’s under $10.00. The shipping estimate is around $11.00. Very enticing and it’s a beautiful red. Almost tempted to order myself.

The only trouble I have had with a Yixing pot was a cheaper one that had appliqués on it. Sooo cute, it had ginkgo leaves and small snails made of clay all over the pot. The handle on the lid was a hollow snail tea mascot with a tiny ball inside that rattled a little when water was poured on the pot. Unfortunately these applied clay pieces didn’t survive seasoning, cracks developed around the edges of the appliqués and one around the base of the handle. :( I probably shouldn’t have seasoned it and just used the inside of the pot for regular black tea or something. Sad to lose that little pot but now I go for pots with either painted or carved decoration, no appliqués that can crack off.
