Need tumbler recommendation
I’m still a novice tea drinker here. I do not like to over steeping my tea, which can be a problem if I want my tea on the go. After doing some searching I found that the Aladdin tea infuser is a good choice. However, I want to stay away from plastics as much as I can. I was wondering if there is a double walled tumbler like the Aladdin infuser, but glass inside instead + plastic outside? I like the Aladdin one because of the drop down tea basket. I can control how long to steep my tea…. on the go!
Or if you guys have an other recommendations for tumblers? I do prefer double walled (glass inside and plastic outside so it doesn’t break). Thanks!
I just do a quick brew of mine in the Teavana perfect teamaker. Only takes a few minutes and u can set it up the night before. I’ve not found a good steep on the go that fits my time frame so I always oversteep.
I have a Libre mug! It’s glass inside and plastic outside and really pretty to look at :) There’s no drop-down mechanism but there is a mesh between the bottle and lid so that you can flip it upside down to steep in the lid compartment.
Yea I looked at the libre and its look quite good. No drop down mechanism but I can live with that. How well does it filter out fine tea leaves like rooibos (which i drink alot of)?
I don’t drink rooibos so I can’t say anything about that. The mesh filter is quite fine and I’ve never had leaves escape from it. Like Awkward Soul mentioned below though, my first one did leak. I emailed them about it and got a free lid replacement (good customer service!) Because the whole thing is sealed when you flip it upside down, pressure will build up and it takes some skill and practice for it not to be a little leaky the first time you open the lid after brewing. I usually carry the empty tumbler for work to make tea in and bring it home sometimes filled with cooled liquid and that never leaks even though I just throw it in my bag.

Kinda depends what you are looking for. You want more control? I’d check out a Zojirushi, timolino or DavidsTea’s carry travel. Those aren’t glass, but double walled stainless steel but what you get is something leakproof, super insulated and indestructible. They also have a basket inside so you can remove the tea easily.
I like the Mandala Tea glass – it just has a filter on the top, but it’s pretty nice but also double glass. I prefer it over the Libre, though the Libre is glass/plastic double walled, I wasn’t happy how mine leaks and has too many places to leak.
Wow nice blog you got there. Great reviews. I kinda want to opt out of the steel as I want to see my tea brew haha… i know. I don’t mind if some double walled are bad at insulation.
i may consider the mandala one but i am clumsy and I feel like i most likely break the darn thing before i get a good amount of uses out of it. thats why i want the libre…. but like some people and including you have said, it leaks a little which sucks. if you have more suggestions please let me know.

But yeah, glass tumblers with the ability to remove the leaves is uncommon. I swear there was more offerings last year for glass options, but I think Teavana’s exploding glass tumblers caused people to not want glass as much and go for stainless steel.
Ooh, the Finum tumbler looks pretty cool, but it also looks like a vertical style of a french press, I’m not sure it’ll actually stop the brewing process.

It’s like the Libre but a little messier, more like the Mandala. Usually there’s a small handle you can use to pull the metal strainer out, so that will take your leaves out with it if you choose to brew with inversion, but it can get pretty hot to handle because that strainer is metal. I don’t have one so I can’t speak for it, but World Market also sells a version if you have access to one of those stores.
Just to update you guys, I ended up getting the Libre one. I looked at the filter and its not fine enough to filter rooibos unfortunately. I’ll see if I can make shift it along with my paper filters. I’ll post again later after I started using it for a while. Mine cost $30 after tax but I hope its worth every penny.
