What does a Mineral note taste like?

I’ve read that some folks get a mineral note from some teas…..what is that? I’ve never tasted a mineral, so I’m looking for info to see if I can detect it in teas. Thanks to all that contribute to the thread!

go lick a rock

its like a slightly metallic, earthy flavor. try drinking rock/cliff teas (yancha). jing tea shop has some nice ones. seven cups and life in teacup ship in the US and are also known for having good yancha.

Dry and chalky is what I associate with mineral notes.

I’ve never heard of yancha teas, so I will explore! Is it a note that most people like? I’m imagining it’s the taste that you get when you take some antibiotics and they leave your mouth feeling like there’s a spoon in your mouth long after you take them….

most people love it. it’s hard to describe. for yancha you should try getting a Rou Gui and a Shui Xian, both are common and usually more torwards the inexpensive side of yancha. I like Jing Tea Shop, though they aren’t shipping for a while. Verdant sells a Da Hong Pao which should be pretty nice as well.

yanchas are very strong flavored, very roasty and smoky, but also floral and sweet.

Go lick a rock was actually pretty good advice. If you aren’t a rock licker then think of the smell of hot concrete after it rains. Kind of similar.

For me, its kinda rocky tasting (though description “wet stones” works good here) but often I associate it with times I’ve had strong tasting hard water/well water/mineral water.

Though, sometimes people associated mineral notes as salty. Easier to just say salty really.

Agreed with the rock-licking analogy. It’s earthy in that it’s an almost-metallic stone note. There’s a bit of it in the oolong I’m drinking this morning. I don’t know why it’s nice, but it’s definitely nice.
