Matcha milkshakes?

Hi all,

I have one lonely matcha tea in my cupboard (Red Leaf’s Wintergreen Matcha) that I haven’t tried because I’ve never tried preparing matcha before.

I don’t have a whisk or a special matcha bowl or anything, but I’m curious about mixing the powder into a drink. In particular, since this is mint-flavoured, and I have some vanilla ice cream in the freezer, I’m thinking about making a milkshake with it and some almond milk.

Are there any tips I should be aware of before doing so? What flavour combinations do you think work best in your own matcha creations?

I make matcha lattes in my blender all the time. I’m sure ice cream would work fine as well.

Not exactly the same, but I like to freeze bananas and then blend them with caramel matcha to make a sort of ice cream and it always works out fine for me, so I imagine doing the same but with real ice cream and milk would work too. Ive you have cocoa powder or like hot chocolate mix that might go good with it to make like a chocolate mint milkshake.

I have made many matcha milkshakes using mostly vanilla icecream and it is really yummy. I have not made one with a flavored matcha, I wonder if it would be good with chocolate icecream since it is all minty.

That sounds… delicious… I now want to try this. OMG. I need more red leaf matchas. The Caramel is all I’ve had, but I want to try ALL THE MATCHAS!

Did you want me to send you the remainder of my Wintergreen Matcha? I’m not sure if I’ll be able to finish it all. Probably about 3 tsp left.

Go for it! though the mint does tend to be a bit intense.

I did end up making the matcha milkshake, but it looks like I put in too much matcha. I’ll probably need to use half as much – it tasted minty, but there was a weird chemical flavour to it as well. Hmm.

I make matcha smoothies for breakfast all the time with fruit and soymilk. They really remind me of milkshakes especially if you put banana in them and milk of your choice. For plain matcha I am very fond of pineapple and banana or strawberry and banana. Matcha lattes are also good with a bit of cardamom. I don’t think these would be very good with mint matcha though. :)
