Black Friday

There has been a lot of talk lately about the Black Friday sales. I searched old threads to get an idea what to expect.

I was surprised at the number of posts from companies I have never even heard of. It was also tedious to find any real info from last year.

Anyone have any favorite memories of sales to share?

Lol, never too early to prepare right? Is this the thread you looked at? That’s where we all posted last year, I know there’s a lot of content to go through though. I don’t really remember much, it’s all blur…major tea hangover! I think cyber monday was bigger for me last year. I remember getting 50% on ALL merchandise at Grosche, even teaware, beautiful glass pots and mugs, french press…

I don’t do Black Friday, but I am all about the Cyber Monday. I’ll start prepping for that about a week before the shenanigans begin!!! Woo!

Guh. Don’t talk about Black Friday! It’s still months away! /hides/ Lol! XD
Mostly I don’t want to think about it since I always have to work and it’s hellish, people generally suck and I wish I had a valid reason for being able to call off like breaking something. (Yes, it’s bad enough that I’d rather have a broken leg/arm/whathaveyou rather than work it. >>;)

I remember Della Terra had a pretty good deal going. 40% on all teas sometime during the night night, then during the day it went to 60% off everything at certain times.
I mostly avoided the sales since I remember not having much money around then…and working put a damper on trying to buy anything too. Lol.

Everyone else keeps bringing it up! Some of the sales look good, but some of what we have seen with other sales lately looks comparable too.

I think some recent sales were unusual for this time a year…I’m thinking about that 50% Tao leaf sale.

That sale was completely unexpected. I wasn’t even planning to place an order with them.
And Mandala 50% was just l e g e n d a r y

Oh, so true, forgot about mandala…

(Lol, how could I forget, I placed 4 orders!!!)

That one was great. The 50% Zen one not so long ago. The current Teavivre is good. It’s hard to get excited about the 15 and 20% ones.

I remember Della Terra sale but at that time I was drifting away from flavored teas. Teavivre had a nice sale. Verdant had awesome sale on Puerh( that’s all I was crazy about, I was addicted to puerh at that time already). Mandala, Steven the Teamaker( after BF) thru FB only. Harney & Sons had a great sale on tea, tea ware and gift sets. I wasn’t interested in other offers so I don’t remember. I have to agree with you that we are having great sales now. I need to stop otherwise no BF/CM for me.

I agree boychik…I don’t see myself going crazy this year on BF. I’ve had my craze this summer, plenty of it!!!

“Verdant had awesome sale on Puerh …”
Sounds intriguing! 2014 plans?

I know the Cyber Monday Pu’er sale has been one of David’s favorite things to do – I will definitely have to pass along you comments, boychik! I also know we are bringing in more of Master Han’s favorite pu’er teas (whatever he can and wants send us!), and if all goes according to plan, we should be able to share new pu’ers from one of my favorite small workshops, too.

It’s a little hard to believe it, but the holidays are creeping right around the corner! Autumn harvests are still a ways off, but I’m definitely looking forward to what we’ll be able to offer this season.

It’s still summer. No talk of Autumn sales yet. And isn’t Cyber Monday since we buy online? Will have to see what is on sale at Teavivre then.

You can always just not click on the thread. ;)

+1. It’s not at all too early to start planning/saving for nice sales. If it’s bothersome just click on something else.

Zentealife.ca usually has a sale that begins after Black Friday and runs for a longer period in tyhe new Canadian tradition of boxing day sales beginning before Christmas. The sale is similar to the 50% off sale they had in the spring. The first year at least it included gift sets as well.

I don’t think they did it last year, but the year before Mountain tea http://www.mounteaintea.com had about 5 select teas for $5/5oz, with only one discounted tea permissible/order. Aliexpress stores often have 60-90% off sales on certain products on cyber Monday.

Della Terra’s is popular usually its 40% off on BF and 35% off on the rest of the weekend with special 60% off promotions on select teas for short periods.

If the trend continues, a few companies will make a splash with big discounts, but most will offer on the order of 10-20% off. Last year seemed especially good: I over-spent big time (though looking at my records, I made a big order around Halloween at 50% off). My advice is to look at many different vendors and be flexible. I’m already making lists of teas I’d like from half a dozen different places, but will probably only place 2 or 3 orders based on the Discounts.

Thanks for the info so far, really my main objective has been to get an idea if the sales then are super crazy blowout sales, or if the really good sales we have been seeing lately are as great as they seem in comparison. It appears to be the latter.

The sales we’ve had lately have been really unusual, in my experience. When I started drinking tea years ago, sales were few and far between. The last year or so, sales seem to be more common and higher discounts.

I agree – BF/CM seemed really good last year because sites that don’t normally have sales did. Since then more and more sites are having sales more often, and the discounts are getting better. Does this mean BF/CM this year will be even better?

boychik said

Dexter, if BF/CM will be better we are in trouble. Seriously

Dexter said

Oh I agree – if I buy NOTHING between now and then (yeah right- like that’s going to happen) and then only buy HALF as much as I did last year – I’ll still be in HUGE trouble. :))

I really don’t want any surprises from companies I wasn’t planning to purchase from. I have to admit its hard to resist to a great offer. I didn’t plan to order from Tao tea Leaf, not in my wildest dream. But I did on their recent 50% sale.

Uniquity said

It gets harder and harder to resist these sales. I just bit on Teavivre’s sale because I needed to re-stock some things, but I have mega regret for not jumping on the Whispering Pines and Mandala sales recently-ish (both would be new companies to me). And Andrews and Dunham had free shipping on Canada Day that I missed out on…I try not to be a huge consumer but I might go for some Cyber Monday sales this year!

Marzipan, Thanks for starting this topic for 2014. I missed all the BF / CM sales last year as I was out of state. My 86-yr old father had successful total knee replacement.

Recently, I took advantage of the big discounts offered by Zen Tea Life, Mandala (1st time order), Misty Peak (1st time order), and now TeaVivre. I agree, most of these seem like CM discounts now. It will be interesting to see what is offered for CM 2014.

In another thread, Brenden of WP has already mentioned that they will have a CM sale. I did find this WP 2013 CM sale: http://steepster.com/discuss/6471-cyber-monday-25-percent-off-of-all-chai-tea-blends.

After my recent Jin Ping Gong Fu from Tao Tea Leaf review, I’ll have watch for their next big sale. It’s too bad I didn’t taste that sample a few days earlier!!

I think we should all make mental note of the July sales this year and see if they repeat next year. Maybe in a perfect world, we could go insane on BF/CM and then again in July. Leaving us just a few teas to pick up here and there through out the year.
Me – I really shouldn’t buy any tea until NEXT July sales….

To add another. In case you love those Tao teas. Last year they had a boxing day sale on Dec.26th with a similar steep discount.

Edited by Tao I mean Tao Tea Leaf
