Taiwan TTB - any interest?

I’ve fallen in love with many teas from Taiwan. Would anyone be interested in doing a tea from Taiwan travelling box? I’m thinking at least 75% unflavored (these teas are quite yummy on their own).

If there is enough interest, I’d be happy to contact a few companies to see if they would like to donate samples.

That could be fun.

I’ve been thinking about it – I just don’t have enough Taiwanese tea that I feel like I could participate.

That’s my main concern. It seems not many people have a decent stash of Taiwanese tea. Might have to do a mini TTB.

seems that I am in the minority of having too much Taiwanese tea.

I want to do this, for sure, but just restricting to Taiwan might be challenging for me, is all. I would want to try more teas than I could replace.

I love Taiwan teas! However, I’m in Canada and that means higher shipping to get back and forth across the border.

Might be able to work something out if enough people are interested (if someone lives near the border that would be awesome). :)

Possibly. You should make it more like 95% unflavored

Definitely a majority unflavored. :)

I have only samples from TTC :(

apt said

what samples? I want to give their teas another try, though I’m not optimistic.

Take a look in my cupboard . I don’t remember, I got them fr swap. I keep them separate in a tin. So I think they are good.

I’ve tried the Red Jade and Aged OB – both were disappointing. The OB doesn’t taste like 1994, tastes younger.

You found only 2? Then I probably didn’t record them. I do have 5-8 diff ones. Just don’t remember, it’s at home. Once I’ll be back shoot me PM ( I may forget, I already promised ppl some samples). After Labor Day;)

apt said

Naw its ok. those are the 2 i tried. not really interested in the ones you have

I just got an order from Taiwan Tea Crafts apt, if anything looks good (most are 25g bags):
Red Jade Spring Black Tea, Lot 306
Sun Moon Lake Assam T-8 Spring Black Tea, Lot 305
Baguashan Mi Xian Black Tea, Lot 302
Yuchi Wild Mountain Mi Xiang Black Tea, Lot 335
Yuchi Wild Mountain Black Tea, Lot 336
Golden Dragon Black Tea, Lot 241
Baguashan Bao Zhong Oolong Tea, Lot 310
Baked Organic GABA Oolong Tea, Lot 275
Organic GABA Oolong Tea, Lot 301

apt said

nah, not too interested in black teas right now. the GABA oolong is quite good though.

I’m not too much into black teas either but some of the Taiwan ones I’ve tried so far have been really good. Just curious: how many Taiwan tea companies are there. I’ve only tried teas from Green Terrace Teas and Temple Road.

a ton.

right now my favorite is Floating Leaves, since Origin closed.

The ones I know are: Red Blossom Tea, Beautiful Taiwan Tea, Taiwan Tea Crafts, and Butiki has an awesome Taiwanese Assam (regular and upgrade version).

Red Blossom is overpriced IMO. The problem with having a physical storefront is that you have to raise your prices to make up for rent.

apt said

And I’m not a huge fan of TTC overall either. They hype their teas up way too much, I feel the same way about Verdant.

Red Blossom is expensive, but their Formosa #18 is the best tea I’ve ever tasted.

apt said

did you try any other ruby reds?

Drinking Taiwan Ruby 18 Black Tea by Floating Leaves right now. Not as good as Red Blossom imo. :)

apt said

I personally wouldn’t go for anything other than oolongs at Floating Leaves.

Wow, plenty of Taiwan tea companies!

The only problem I would have with a Taiwan TTB is I don’t have all that much to add to one, I believe you are supposed to add what you take? I have never done a TTB.

I’d love to participate. However, my pool is kind of small too as I tend to not open a new oolong until I finish one I have opened.

Might be easier to also open it to all oolongs.

An all oolong box would be fun. Has one ever been done?

I’ve only heard of a black and herbal boxes done so far. There’s lots of great oolongs from China (of course), Nepal, Thailand, Indonesia, Hawaii and even Kenya and Japan. Would be a fun compare and contrast, but we’d need big oolong pool.

I don’t think I have personally have enough Oolong to start one right now. Maybe a smaller box though.
Where do you find Oolong from Hawaii? That sounds really interesting.

Gracious! It does look interesting though.

That would have been my concern as well. I have very little Taiwan teas and the ones I do have I hate to part with because they’re so good!!

Sounds like maybe we need a Taiwanese exploration and educational traveling tea box! There are so many nice Taiwanese teas out there (oolongs, blacks, etc.). I don’t know why, but I am just captivated by these teas. So good!

I’m interested as well, but like everyone else I don’t think I have much on hand to add. Make it an unflavored oolong box and I’m in though!

Sounds interesting, but I don’t have anything to add now.
