Ceylon recommendations?

I recently had a Kenilworth Ceylon tea and really enjoyed it, and now I’m looking for some more advice about Ceylons to try (I’ve seen other threads on the forums, and know about Dilmah, Golden Moon’s Sinharajah, etc).

Right now I have a question: the Kenilworth Ceylon was very fruity. It definitely didn’t have the bite I typically associate with Assam, nor the leathery/smoky notes I’ve experienced with Yunnan blacks. Do all Ceylons have a similar profile to the one I tried?

In particular, I’m going to make an order with RiverTea soon, and they have two Ceylons in stock there: Ray of Light, which it says is more citrusy; and Silver Lining, which it says is “strong and pungently sweet with smooth malty notes and a trace of tropical wood” and is from “the most northerly and oldest growing area of Sri Lanka”

Of these two teas, which do you guys think would be the better choice? I’m leaning towards the Ray of Light tea, but I’d love more informed opinions.

Some are really fruity, some are sugary, some are sweet potato dish, and some can be heavy. If you like the lighter ones, try to make sure that it op at least as bop can be more heavy and can have more bitter notes. I haven’t had any River Teas yet. If you are considering an order Christina, Capital Tea Ltd has a good number of them. Of the ones I’ve tried Lumbini Estate is the fruitiest so far and shipping is 4$ in the GTA.

Not sure if anyone who sells from the Amba estate ships to Canada at any reasonable price, but I’d highly recommend that one. It’s very fruity and deep with citrusey notes.

Camellia Sinensis based in Montreal sells them!

I just sent off an email to Capital Tea asking about whether they sell sample sizes. I’d love to try some of their ceylons and senchas (I really love their jasmine dragon pearls) but I don’t want to buy 100g at once.

They sell 20g sized on most of their Teas. You have to scroll down. Most of my last order was this size. Joel has been known to customise an order to request though.

Yes, very true. He is great at meeting his customers’ needs!

Hm. Joel just responded to an inquiry I sent him saying that he could split 100g packages down to 50g and sell the 50g package for half the 100g plus plus an additional fee of $1.00.

The weird thing is that he didn’t mention the 20g sample size that you stated at all.

I’m going to the Canadian Coffee and Tea show, though, so maybe he’ll be there.

Maybe he misunderstood you. The teas are sold as 20g on the website. That was my entire last order. He must have thought you meant a size not normally available. You have to click on where it says 100g and It shoes you the available sizes. Even your jasmine pearls were available at that size.

Having just been reminded by another topic on the discussion board, try Monsoon Mountain Tea Company. The prices are very affordable and the owner Rebecca is a gem.

Those sampler packs sound perfect. I’ve just sent an email to the vendor to learn more about their shipping to Canada.

Please let us know how things go with Rebecca. I have been eyeing some of her teas for a few weeks now. (And I too live in Canada.)

Best wishes,
sherubtse

She’s mailed stuff to me in USA at the exact cost of shipping so I would imagine she would do the same for Canada!

Monsoon Mountains is ace – one of the best companies I have dealt with. Tea, freebies, samples, tasting notes and great follow up service and an amazing selection of Ceylon tea.

Personal favourites? Loolecondera and Inverness Estate, the Inverness is probably one of the best teas I’ve ever tasted.

I order my ceylon teas from Rebecca too – I am in the Netherlands – and shipping is very reasonable and quick.
Her teas are all exquisit. My favourites are Inverness, also enjoy Pedro Estate. Received samples from Lumbini Estate and these teas are yummie and a delight and treat for special occassions. Amba est. is wonderful too.

Would certainly recommend Monsoon. Best teas, outstanding and personal service that is uncommon these days…

I’m not a super-high-end tea connoisseur but after having tried many different teas my favorite go-to tea is still Ceylon tea from Choice Organics. I purchase it bulk from my local health food store. I find that one small mesh teaball can brew 2-3 cups and I prefer to steep it for 20-30 seconds.

Choice website

That said, I definitely would like to explore some of the teas mentioned in this thread.
