I’m also a big fan of subscription boxes as a way to taste different teas and find new favourites! I’m enjoying Tea Sparrow (http://www.teasparrow.com/).

Thanks Lindsay! I just signed up!

Lindsay, I received my tea sparrow box a few days ago. Thank you. I really enjoyed the coconut oolong.

I haven’t received mine yet! Drawbacks of living in the middle of nowhere, lol. Glad you enjoyed it! :)

Kyla, if you PM your address to me I will send you samples from different companies. It sounds like you like flavored teas more than straight blacks?

Thank you!! I just sent it to you. :)

Welcome! I started drinking a lot of tea a few years ago and made a lot of mistakes in my initial purchases. Eventually I realized my faves really are flavored blacks, often with a Ceylon base. There are some greens I like, but very few herbals or white.

Long way of saying, don’t feel bad about your mistakes, but steepster will really help. Consider trades if you can find some that work. Also consider if you want to participate in a travelling tea box. See the threads to see how they work, but you have to be committed to pass it on in a timely fashion.

I also vouch for the samples. Nice way to try some different teas without investing too much. Exploring different teas is fun, and you’ll find the journey fun.

THANKS!! I think I would like to do the traveling box. I wasn’t sure how they worked- I will check out that thread!

The general idea is that someone prepares a box with different kinds of tea and sends it to someone. That person tastes some of the different kinds, replaces what they took with different teas and then forwards it on. But some boxes have special themes, like all unflavored teas, all organic etc, so if there is a theme to the box, you have to make sure you have the right kind of tea to replenish the box. For example, in an “unflavored” box, you wouldn’t refill with David’s Tea Birthday Cake flavored. You’re also supposed to post some pics or reviews so that others can share in the fun as the box moves along the list of recipients. Each box has its own rules or suggestions that are usually listed, but you can always ask the initial sender if you have any questions.

Also, some people have had bad experiences where someone gets a box and then never forwards it on and they just stop posting. So sometimes people will limit participants to make sure that the people have been active. Don’t be insulted if they restrict participation – it’s nothing personal – they just want to make sure that everyone who is on the list eventually gets the box and isn’t left out. Just do some one on one trades and keep posting and you’ll be fine.
