Best tea sites for free tea samples.

Just wanted to start a discussion on the best tea sites for free tea samples. Have not seen anything on the board like this. Paying for shipping is perfectly fine. Just a good thing to know for people who are barely trying to get into tea. Let the steepster community if you know of any.

The only companies that I can think of are Yunomi, Yezi Tea, and Design-a-Tea. I hope that helps.

Den’s Tea has free samples that you just pay $3 shipping for. They send a bunch of brewing information to help you get better at making all the different types of green tea. I thought it was quite a nice little package when I got it.

I remember this site…Design a Tea. The samples aren’t free, but they’re really cheap. I remembered this place because I noticed the 585 area code…I’m originally from Rochester, and it stuck in my head.

Teavivre will send samples if you write to them.

Well that is very nice on their part!

Caveat, they will look at your reviews, it’s samples for review.

Not everyone is approved anymore, as they get many requests. Still very generous though!

Yeah, I know when I applied not long ago they asked for my blog post (I used my Steepster log) and they came here and read my reviews and I got a personal email about it.

Den’s & Yezi are the only ones I can think of. Everyone else tends to send free samples in return for reviews. So newbies w/o reviews probably won’t qualify.

At www.nannuoshan.org we send free tea samples. You can select the samples directly from the store. We charge 5 euro for the shipment and deliver allover Europe.
Nannuoshan actually invite the customers to try the tea before buying, as common in the Chinese teashops. Not having a real shop to try our teas before buying, we send free samples instead.

I love the design of your site. It’s very clean and soothing.

Thanks a lot Marzipan! We aimed at a refined but intuitive design when we conceived our website. We ought to thank Michela for the design of www.nannuoshan.org. Have a look at her other works, they are all very clean and neat to my eyes: www.michelafilippini.com

And, of course, we do reserve the same attention in selecting our teas. We travel to China every year to selected the tea on the field and buy it directly by the growers.

How can I persuade you to include Denmark in the list of places you ship to? eyelash flutter

nannuoshan said

Ang, you just persuaded me! :)
Sorry, Denmark was not included by mistake, now it is!

Angrboda said

Brilliant! I will give you some of my money right away, then. (Don’t tell Husband.)

nannuoshan said

Do you like black tea, right? :)
Thanks a lot for your trust!

Angrboda said

It’s my favourite type. :) Especially Tan Yang, which is my most favouritest tea of all time. :9

So you are a purist! It wasn’t easy to find a Tanyang still produced according to the old, traditional recipe.
Many tea farmers in Fujian tends now to use their best spring leaves to produce Jin Jun Mei, which became very popular in China in the last years.
Top, traditional Minhong Gongfu are becoming rare!

I thought it was mostly the old-fashioned Lapsang Souchongs that were endangered by JJM. That’s lovely too, but I like the others as well. Fujian in general is a favourite area for me. If it’s a Fujian black, I don’t need to think too much about it because I know I’ll like it. They tend to have just the right combination of cocoa-y and grain-y, and if you’re lucky a bit of a smoky note too. I love my Keemuns as well for the same qualities, although they’re more smoky and less cocoa-y. (I prefer lower grade Keemun because of the smoky note. In high grades that note is more floral in nature, and I’m not super-keen on floral.)

It looks like you have a really lovely selection of teas and an easy to navigate website.

Tell me about Tan Yang, I love blacks but haven’t had it.

The description of this tea is not yet online, but I can certainly describe it here for you.

Tanyang Gongfu is a traditional black tea, one of the first ever produced. The taste is quite strong, round and long; not floral.
It belongs to the Minhong Gongfu, a class of black teas produced in the northeast of the Fujan province.
Today the traditional Gongfu black teas are threatened by market-driven dynamics. Many producers abandon the traditional technics to increase productivity and to replicate the taste of other popular black teas. To guarantee our customers an outstanding drinking experience, we procure our Tanyang Gongfu by a family-driven tea farm, that has been proudly producing traditional Tanyang Gongfu for several generations.

Now I’m curious to try the black teas too! I’ve just send the requests for the samples. I’ll get back to you as soon as I try them! Thank you for all the explanations!

What’s the limit on samples one can get from your site? I have a cousin trying to get into tea and wanting her to try as many samples so she can find what she likes.

Hi Tea junkie. It is nannuoshan writing; from another account as I currently have problems with mine (http://steepster.com/discuss/9617-banned-account).
The “official limit” is 3 free tea samples every 120 days. However the limit is set only to avoid abuse; we are not strict. Let me know if you need any advice.

Thank you very much for the info!

Dear Ang, we will ship your order and the free samples tomorrow.
In the next days we will open the teaware section of our online tea shop: www.nannuoshan.org

You probably have a whole set of teaware, but might like to have a look.
And for the tea beginners, there are great deals with entry-level tea sets.

I’m quite particular about my bone china, actually, but I’ll have a peek anyway. One never knows. :) I look forward to the parcel, thanks. :D
